wicksy
He's apparently turned the Newcastle job down out of loyalty to Portsmouth. Very laudible!! However, he's apparently managed to get his Portsmouth salary doubled according to today's papers. So that's why he had to talk to Newcastle first before turning the offer down!!! Good old loyal 'Arry
Mod
I heard on 5live (yea I know ) that 'arry was talking to Newcastle and wanted to stay living down south and be a fly-in/fly-out manager everyday? Newcastle said no, and that made his mind up to stay down south.
mad_mac
That had also been mentioned by Fox Sports out here in the States too Mod. the idea of him staying down south and flying in and out everyday. Honestly, I don't know who in their right mind would take the Newcastle job, especially at this point in the season scott
loz
For various reasons the Newcastle job is always going to tempt a number of people. 1. Outside of the top three and the fourth spot team (Liverpool, at least for now, come on Everton you can do it) they are one of the wealthiest clubs. 2. They do have a very large and loyal fan base. 3. They are a club with a history of trying to play attractive football (making the decision to appoint Allardyce even more bizarre) 4. They are one of the very few top clubs in the country who have no competition for the local fan base. Most other teams have a nearby rival. This makes Newcastle a pretty fun city to be in on match day as there is a real sense of camaraderie everywhere (if you are a Geordie!). For a manager that can be a wonderful thing (or awful if you are doing badly!)
