Jose - "We Do Not Want To Be Champions Of The Summer..."

Featured Replies

Not in any way to be construed as my "I want him back" "doomed for failure" pleas, I just thought I'd post something that does have to do with us as well. I thought Jose mad another very witty and really very cutting statement that while he is working hard to secure new signings that will improve his team, he is not desperate and that his squad is already a very good one. He said he is working for the long term and he is not looking to be "champions of the summer". My understanding of that quote is that while it would be nice to make some top quality signings, making changes for the sake of it would not be wise. These signings have to come in and really improve the quality of the squad so they can attain success at the end of the season, not just so the club can say they have made the most number of signings during the summer.

Food for thought for Chelsea as well (or should I say Chelsea fans) ;)

Cheers,

Butch

He certainly was not the champion of last summer! It is not inconceivable to see ALL of Jose's signings from last year gone 12 months later. How many clubs can ever say that?

(I consider Alex to be a signing from a few seasons ago)

What? You mean the free transfers he picked up when not backed financially by the chairman, who knew the ANC would leave our squad players short? They were always going to be short-fix appointments.

Back to Butch's post.....The statement made by Jose is clever in many ways, on one hand he's saying he won't be drawn into a bidding war or have his hand forced over signings, and on ther other he's giving his current players confidence by saying they don't really need to buy as his squad is already good enough. Very clever use of words.

To be fair, his transfer record was never great, especially considering that in the first two seasons he had an unlimited budget to work with. The only Mourinho players who became unquestionable successes at Chelsea were Carvalho,Essien and Drogba and the latter two took some time to adjust, to say nothing of the fact that all of them were already established players and cost a sh*tload of money to get.

I'm not knocking Jose, but he wasn't as perfect as some would make him out to be.

Those comments were much better than his "my melons/eggs are sh*t" comments he made when he was here.

Yes he was - probably even more perfect. Just ask Liam.

Usually perfect doesn't need an intensifier, unless you're Ethicalstrategy talking about Jose that is.

You'll be calling him truly unique next.

If you haven't experienced "intensified perfection" Liam then you really haven't lived!

Jose was always good value in my book whether he was talking about eggs, melons or like he is now with his smart "champions of the summer" stuff. That way you bolster your existing squad by saying you have the utmost faith in them (even if you perhaps don't) but also leave yourself open to get a few top quality signings in too.

That's the smart way to go in any case - you cause too much upheaval at a club buying and selling and I think you do more harm than good.

Who cares what he says now.

"BIG PHIL'S ROYAL BLUE ARMY"
