TomP Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Not much happening in the way of transfer rumours at the moment, so I thought I would start one. If we are after a non-cup tied quality striker in January, should we go after Zaki? He has looked absolutely world class for Wigan so far this season. He's full of confidence, and he has the physical presence to slot straight into a lone striker role that he would have with us. Just watched the highlights of the match against Liverpool, and that second goal he scored was absolutely top draw. There's only a handful of strikers in the world that could score goals like that consistantly, and currently he's one of them. Given Drogba's injuries, Anelka's below-par form, and Di Santo's lack of experience, he might be just the injection we in need in January to drive on to the business end of the season. We could probably get him for a knock down price as well, as I'm pretty sure he's only on loan at Wigan - I don't think they own him.
Dubzz 6 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Yeah he is only on loan at Wigan, but for some reason I just couldn't see him do well at one of the big four, I think he is more suited to lower clubs where he shines out a bit more, a player like Johnson, Bellamy, Defoe etc.. No doubting his natural ability and work rate though. I'm 99% sure Wigan won't be the ones that secure him on a permanent deal unless in their current loan contract there is an clause to buy him at the end for a certain price..
midlandblue Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I believe he is avaliable for around £8. mill. well worth a punt....if he was proven!!!!!!!
Tim W Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Think we have enough players / youngsters without complicating matters more. The best strategy would be to give Di Santo 10-15 minutes in the next 8-9 games slowly increasing this to 20-30 miutes. Then at Christmas bring back Sahar and start kicking him into shape

Spoke to a mate who was at the Liverpool game and he was very impressed with Zaki so reckon Liverpool will also have a look at him. He is in the shop window at the moment and obvioulsy looking for a fixed contract , might be a another reason behind his form recently ...
heckel Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 (edited) I used to play a bit of snooker and I always found it surprising that some days I would make the most unlikely pots, but would then f**k up the easiest shots. It's like that with strikers. You want a Van Nistelroy or a Torres, players who live goals. So I'm always sceptical when a player generates headlines with spectacular goals. From any potential striker who is not already one of our own, I want to see intelligent positional play, and an even temperament in front of goal. Also I haven't lost faith in ANelka - I think the way we have been playing up front is testament to his link up play and his nicely timed runs. If he can just get that confidence in his shooting he had at Arsenal and Bolton he'll be unstoppable. Edited October 21, 2008 by heckel

Before anyone ridicules me for this comment: I meant that if we have a youngster who shows flashes of brilliance but hasn't got consistency then I would give him a run out in the hope that his talents could be honed. But it's no good bringing in a player who can bang in the odd screamer but can't consistently beat keepers one on one.

PloKoon13 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Well Shearer says he's "everything you'd want in a centre forward". He must be good!
