Slightly off topic but on BBC News London last night there was a feature on a monument which is planned for Waterloo Station in honour of the Windrush Generation. Sounds OK with me. Next thing there’s a hatchet faced Labour councillor saying it’s outrageous that the monument is not in Brixton. Cue some other chip on his shoulder, self appointed “ community leader” insisting that there should be separate monuments in Waterloo, Brixton, Notting Hill, Harlesden, and Hackney. All the while the reporter is nodding his head in agreement, no doubt to scared stiff to do anything other than give the interviewees free reign.

Arsenal in the bottom half of the table there yet they won the double next season. Only 14,000 odd at Sunderland v Spurs. Just shy of the record attendance at Upton Park, no doubt bolstered by Cockney Reds. Talking of Cockney Reds, I see Banana Bobs got a book out. Very well known bloke Wimbledon/ Sutton way. Memories of the Arsenal game.... We’d just come back from a lads holiday in San Antonio. Six of us went to the game; four Chelsea and two Arsenal. Parked up round the back of Highbury Fields, saw a big black and white mob of Goooners, a good couple of hundred, outside Highbury and Islington Station. We were bottom left of the Clock End as you look down the pitch. I remember it being packed but not as big a squash as Grimsby or QPHa Boxing Day for example. Arsenal mates who were in the North Bank said it was the most full they’d seen the Clock End, which included when Villa won the league there a couple of years before, which I went to some strange reason- think the gate for that one was about 56,000 BTW. My cousin who was big into FV was with Chelsea in the North Bank. It didn’t go off- can’t remember whether they stayed there incognito for the whole game, but he said he didn’t rate their firm on the evidence of what he saw that day. Got very pissed after at Victoria, and that’s about it.

For the 82 game one of the papers mentioned that Chelsea stewards ( who were fans rather than the minimum wage jobsworths we get now) aimed kicks and punches at the Leeds fans trying to scale the fences. A Leeds fan I was working with got nicked at Piccadilly Circus tube where it all went off. About a year after he got detained for a few weeks in Luxenburg I think after an England game.

Very well written. He’s not only lost his job ( corporate telecommunications) he’s now unemployable in that world. It is a PR exercise. No doubt Marina and co brainstormed and came to the conclusion that the club had to be seen to be taking a tough stance, and it’s findings ( use that term loosely) worked backwards from that position. The poor f**ker whose life is now in ashes is just collateral damage. It’s all a big pose, driven by gobby victim culture busy bodies and media bloodlust because it makes good copy. Hopefully this climate of fear were living in will be looked back on similarly to McCarthyism- witch hunts, reds under the bed etc

Kick it Out’s spokesman commented that it was a very sad day for football when Chris Houghton got the sack ( this was later recinded) This implies that he was sacked for racial reasons, and sums up the victim mindset. I quite like CH, think he comes across very well, however he lost his job because it’s a results business and the results weren’t good enough, not because he’s black, mixed race, or pink with polkedots.
