  1. Great post. I never went to Stuart’s for some reason. Sharps Sports in Kensington High St used to have a buzzer to get let in. There was a shop called the Red Baron I think on the Walworth Road which was the first place on this country to sell Kappa apparantly, and a couple of places on Roman Road. Various golf shops did well- one in South Croydon used to do zig zag Pringles- me mate and me brother brother both got the same jumper from there which pissed each other off. First time I got a moped ( Fizzy) and freedom to get around, went straight to Troubadour in Sutton and bought a gabicci ( Gabicci and Farahs were more night wear and don’t remember them being worn at Chelsea) Agree with the cup game at Derby. As a rule from best dressed lads were firm who sat in the seats. Edit: by firm, not all of them were up for a row. For many Is was just a laugh and fashion
  2. There were little variations dress wise between London clubs. Millwall were known for getting the deerstalker hat thing going- went to West Ham v Man Utd probably 83; In the bar of the South Bank at half time noticed loads of Burberry golf jackets, which I’d only seen once at the Bridge. I think the peak of casual was 83. It changed into something else back end of 84, more discreet no labels on the outside.
  3. Agree with full tracksuit comments, but do remember seeing people with Tachini bottoms circa 83, which weren’t for me. This did the rounds for a bit. Haven’t worn it for years because of chav check connactations, though not as obvious as Burberry
  4. Don’t wear anything with the label outside these days. Some cool stuff you mentioned above. Since Fila etc starting reproducing BJ’s etc, it’s cheapened the look and taken it downmarket. Fell in love with the BJ tracksuit top when I was on holiday in Selsey Spring 82. Saw a bloke with a green one, which are worth many hundreds now. Couldnt afford one back then, picked one up 19 years later- was wearing it shortly after clubbing when I met my wife
  5. Our Frank in Heaven Lampard be thy name. Thy Kingdom Come Spurs will get done, On earth as it is in heaven. Amen
  6. Just looked this game up online; it was the first game under floodlights at Champion Hill. Chelsea won 3-Nil, crowd of 4,000. Thought the attendance might have been higher than that- believe they had 20,000 plus before.
  7. Used to get sent down the corner shop with a note from me Mum for a packet of Peter Stuyvesant Blue. Remember cigarette vending machines outside shops too, though they used to get turned over a fair bit.
  8. Some muppet on twitter made a FV comment prior to West Ham away two seasons back. Headline “ Infamous Chelsea Headhunters have called out West Ham prior to their midweek clash” Pathetic but that’s the media for you
  9. Ha. I dread to think what the karzi was like there. Oakwell in 82 was open air I remember. Just a wall with trough basically
  10. Even allowing for the day and age that is one poxy looking ground. Makes Plough Lane look like the Nou Camp
  11. Did anyone see the feature on Cech on Sky Sports yesterday? Comes across as a genuinely nice guy. A class act in every way.
  12. Got this in Camden Stables Market in 2001. A mate picked me up to go to drive to Weston Super Mare where we stayed in a B and B the night before the Final v Arsenal same year. ( Cardiff) Was wearing this. “ What you doing wearing Arsenal colours you ....” he said. Hardly ever wear it now. Bit self conscious wearing a tracksuit top in my 50s
  13. Feature on Micky Thomas in today’s Mail. Not much on Chelsea but happy to report he’s cancer free.
  14. What a mad day that was. “ Boro, Boro run, Boro run from Chelsea.....”
  15. Okay then. Thanks for your contribution in the forum. Your welcome
  16. Please keep in mind we all need heroes. This woman is a big one for younger women and girls. 99,99% of the cases the ref is there by merit. She was given the chance albeit with the agenda. Now she has that merit. Please end the one man crusade. We understand your point. “ A big hero for younger women and girls” Reminds me of the London Olympics, and the vacuous platitudes that we’re trotted out by politicians, administrators and commentators. It was going to “ Inspire a Generation” The reality was/ is that there was no uptake in kids involvement in sport afterwards, despite the how to get involved links on BBC and others. Its all a big fat cliche
  17. She has not been a top flight referee. She has officiated in the second tier of French Football, so on that basis she has jumped the queue on the basis of her sex On merit, there would have been scores/ hundreds of refs operating in the major European Leagues that she has leapfrogged for gender inclusivity reasons. I understand the logic behind the move, but it’s social engineering pure and simple.
  18. I believe in meritocracy, not somebody being awarded the job due to gender.
  19. Understanding of satire not your strong point obviously. Diabolical as a description of her part was an exaggeration, however she has limited experience as a ref which showed on the pen in our favour. She only the gig because she’s a she. Her performance was always going to be deemed a success by the footballing bodies however well she and her colleagues officiated. Like the women’s game in general, it has not been able to grow organically ( from zero to max coverage under the banner of diversity in the blink of an eyelid) If your in thrawl to all this great. Crack on, award yourself a gold star you big tit
  20. Thought the ref was diabolical. Is there a drive to get Men officiating in Ladies netball? Suprised the Lino’s weren’t transsexual wheelchair users of colour to be honest
  21. Where has this 300- 500 M figure come from?
  22. Chelsea briefs ( do I put on the men’s or ladies today.....) The V Neck Lambswool jumper with pucker embroiled badge was a thing of beauty. Disposable lighter was a bit lumpy for the time @ £1.50
