Tactical masterclass from Maresca. Play Badiashile whilst Benfica sit back then sub him for a more capable defender once we've scored. Badiashile got injured and we're lucky he didn't blunder a goal before then? Nonsense!!

Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*
I think 433 is the plan but setup slightly differently. Midfield three of: Caicedo - Lavia - Enzo You'd then have one of James or Cucurella inverting to hold with Lavia so Caicedo and Enzo can push forward. Front three likely to be: Palmer - Jackson/New - Nkunku

Odds on Sterling to smash the penalty over?

Mainly because he's a good player and the club captain. However, with his recent injury record and Gusto's performances, if good money was available then I wouldn't be mad if we sold him.

Yeah I'm not confident in getting rid of Sterling or Cucu either. As sterlings wages are so high I'd be happy if he left for free. I guess Cucu could be our "utility defender" to save us some money?

Sorry if this is the wrong place or has been posted elsewhere but I couldn't find anything. With our season running out of steam (again) I started to think about next season. Who will we sell (and who do we need to sell for FFP)? Where do we need to recruit and who is a viable option? What will our squad look like? Sales I think FFP is a big factor so home gown players (Gallagher, Chalobah, Broja, Maatsen and Hall (obligation to buy)) will go. We then have players that aren't good enough/wanted. Lukaku, Cucurella, Sterling, Kepa and Ziyech. Add to that Thiago Silva as his contract expires. As an estimate I think we could make over £200m for these sales. Gallagher £50m Chalobah £35m Broja £20m Maatsen £30m Hall £28m Lukaku £35m Cucurella £30m Sterling £30m Kepa £20m Ziyech ????? Purchases I think we need a utility defender (to cover injuries), LB, LW and ST. I'm not sure on good candidates for this or what money we'll have to get these players in so I'll leave speculating on that for now. Squad I've assumed Poch is staying and he'll continue playing a 4231 formation. For the sake of ease I've gone with 2 in each position. You'd obviously want an extra defender (with our injury record) and GK (probably Bettinelli) Where do I think this squad comes in the league? I think we've seen some signs of progress recently so I'm hopeful this squad could push for Europa league places next year.

Poch In or Out? The Mega-thread Merged
On the fence. For 1. At the start of the season I'd have said we need to back a manager for this project to work. Sacking him would be going back to the old Chelsea model but we had better players back then. 2. Who do we replace him with? Everyone we could get is a risk. 3. Our players are young and potentially just poor. Would anyone do better? 4. Got a final coming up and could still finish in the European places. Against 1. We have no recognisable tactics. I watch us and I'm genuinely confused about what we're trying to do. 2. Enzo and Caicedo. Looked like world beaters elsewhere. Look bereft of ideas under Poch. Does he make players better? 3. The results. Verdict Review at the end of the season

The Mad Hatters Luton Town vs Chelsea (PL) Sat 30th Dec 23 12:30 GMT
I thought it'd be Jackson on the left and Palmer off Broja. I sort of get playing both. Broja needs confidence and Luton might be his best chance to score. Jackson off to AFCON so no worries about injuries?

I'd like to see something like this Petrovic Disasi Silva Colwill Gusto Caicedo Gallagher Madueke Palmer Mudryk Nkunku I want to see Colwill at CB, Gusto did well at LB against Olise and we shouldn't have to worry about Disasi at RB against Luton. Madueke deserves to be rewarded for his performance last time out. We definitely missed Palmer and Mudryk is starting to improve so another start against a weaker side should help him.

I agree on Silva's calming influence but just think with the season being written off we're better off getting the others playing together more as he probably won't be around next season. On tightening up the defence maybe we would benefit from going 3 at a back and using our pace to counter. Being hard to beat might be the best we can hope for at this point.

I was feeling positive after our run of games against Arsenal, Spurs and City but the abject performance against Utd makes me believe we may as well write the season off. With that in mind I don't see the point in continuing with Sanchez, Silva and Cucurella. None of them can be part of the long term plan. I have a panic attack every time the ball is passed to Sanchez, our defence has been poor and a 39 year old Silva isn't distinguishing himself and Cucurella is Cucurella. With that in mind I'd like to see Petrovic James Badiashile Colwill Maatsen Enzo Caicedo Palmer Gallagher Mudryk Broja
