It was dependent on Wilson leaving which fell through, so they couldn’t proceed. Might be revived in Jan, but I feel it’s another situation which the club should have sorted early in the summer.

Those criticizing the club here are probably missing 1 thing. That George has never really shown much to suggest he is a superstar in waiting.
I think he is a decent young player, but nowhere near good enough to consistently minutes at Chelsea.
The club then accepted a healthy deal from Fulham, and would have happily sold, knowing he was not likely going to play much for us… and the. The Wilson deal fell through, which has a knock on impact on George.
Those talking about Garnacho are (I think) deluded if they think the players are in the same category. Garnacho is for me much better already, with a much higher ceiling.

I feel sorry for him as the move to Fulham would be a nice platform for his career. Just hope they were the ones to f**k up the deal and not our fax machine again. Anyway 6 more months to evaluate his progress, go on Boy George!

Got to agree with Jim on this one.
George isn’t a ‘bad’ player and is only 19, but he’s shown nothing so far that he’s at PL level let alone Chels level. Think of all the Cobham lads that didn’t quite make it here at similar ages RLC, CHO, Mount etc…
We always need squad players, that’s a given, but also should we not be thriving for the best?
Garnacho (minus his annoying face) has shown he is a better player.

Fair enough. My initial view from the little we have seen him, is that I dont think George is good enough to be contributing consistently to Chelsea. Personally, I think Garnacho is much better and more likely to be a player who can contribute to a successful squad.
Obviously, there are always tiers of players.
Superstars/other worldly - your Messi's, ronaldos, Maradonnas, Hazards
World class/best in class - Lamps, Cech, JT, Essien, Maka, Drogs, Zola,
Top Tier Supporting class - Ferreira, Azpi, Eidur, Brana,
Solid supporting players - Ramires, Cahill, Willian, Mikel, Loftus cheek, Pedro
Unspectacular, but can play a role - Bridge, Emerson, Kalou, KDH,
Players not good enough in the long run - Bakayoko, Hilario, Kenedy, Boga, Broja, Abraham, Scot Sinclar.

Personally...I put George in the final category. Can have a decent career - but not good enough for us. Garnacho I think has potential to be solid or top tier support....

Done this to death on the Chilly thread - but we all seem to be in either one of 2 camps.
1) That a playing career is short and they should have some pride and try to actually play as many games as possible. They are already multi millionaires. They could still get paid eye watering amounts even if they took a wage cut. Do the right thing for your playing career and leave.
2) The club agreed to pay them x amount - it's not the players fault that he has not played well enough to get into the team. f**k the club - let him sit and collect more money .
Those are basically the 2 sides.... I am clearly in camp 1.
Albeit I accept it is his right to collect the wage cheque and chelsea honour the contract. It's just not particularly flattering and says more about his personality (basically money is more important that his football)

If wages are so important why do we treble or quadruple the salaries of these young players when we sign them…why not just double it?
Why are we paying £100k’s a week for players to play for other clubs?
Why have we left £100m’s on the table with no FOS sponsor. And that £27m fine could have helped.
The money is there for us all to see, a slight tweak in how they’re spending it and on what is all that needs adjusting.
I like Hato, think he has great potential to be a top player. If we didn’t need a top class experienced CB to go straight into the team then sign him up but with Josh already there potential isn’t what the squad needed right now.

It just means we lose the sell on, thats something that’s not taking into consideration with these sell ons. If the player runs down his contract and walks you get nothing.
It’s hard to work out why Guehi wasn’t snapped up. Is 25 to old? We spent more on Hato who the manager clearly thinks isn’t ready?? Then why bloody sign him when we already had Josh in the academy.
It’s the lack of blend in our squad thats an issue, there’s a reason it’s never been done before.
All the money spent and arguably our 4 best defenders came out the academy and our best option in the market also came out our academy. Why are we spending £40m on Dutch 19yr olds? Anselmino’s gone to Germany? It’s stupid.

Agree! We have spent around £240m, the Garnacho transfer brings it close to £290m and I struggling to see any quality. Granted Pedro has looked very sublime, but it all feels depth signings for CL football. For that amount of money you would expect 2-3 quality signings and still have change for 2 depth players, but we paid £55m for Gittens!

If Chilly chooses to stay at Chelsea collect extra money, as opposed to leaving to play more (whilst earning less) - then that is up to him. That is his prerogative.
My view is that career pride and game time is better than a few extra 000's in the bank account - particularly when that person is already. earning more per week than most can only dream of. That is my prerogative.
You seem to argue that it is better for Chilly to rot in the reserves but earn more money, rather than leave. I dont agree - but that is your prerogative. Money is more important to you than career pride.
