  1. Oh yes, quite easily. I can watch yesterday's performance over and over - there's a lot to enjoy tactically. And of course there are many fans with no real tactical appreciation of the game which is also fine. Sitting deep, scraping some wins on the counter would be way less enjoyable. And it can only last so long until the players start moaning again.
  2. Sure, they would it into touch, the man 6 yards in front of them, so hard the goalie takes 2 steps forward to collect. There is not a single midfielder at the club who could hit that pass consistently. And that's the major problem we had with trying to get the best of Timo and Lukaku. For both of them you would want to play a lower block than we have, certainly more for Lukaku who can't press. But then you absolutely need that ball for the them to exploit the space, find 1v1s.
  3. He's going to find it hard to keep it tight with Jorginho and Azpilicueta at the back - without playing a low block. And if he does that then the football will turn to sh*t.
  4. And he won the first one because Kovacic got injured. Kovacic was far and above our best player when fit that season.
  5. Nemanja Matic before we sold him to Benfica, then bought him again.
  6. We don't own a stake so not quite. The idea being that the club would be able to buy youth players (similar to what we saw this past window) for the other club, also guarantee loan playing time. E.g We loaned Charlie Colkett to Vitesse which was ultimately a waste of time and affected his development. Charly Musonda - 2 years (with injuries of course), but only 4 appearances.
  7. I imagine that's where it largely broke down. You see the investment they made in the dev team and Tuchel probably wanted nothing to do with that side of the club. They obviously wanted a coach who could plot sustainable paths with Neil Bath. The issue is that every top manager of the last 20ish years worked/works more independently than that. They get points for the risky play but I just wish it never came at the expense of TT. The exciting bit is the multi-club model. We've had the best academy over the last decade but it's a massive struggle getting dev team players a viable next step.
  8. Correction - *some of the players. I never saw any lack of effort from any of the defenders or central midfielders…or Sterling and Broja. There were individual mistakes, fitness issues, adjustment periods needed, set piece issues because of the changing personnel. All which could be addressed with time. And for all those attackers downing tools - ultimately they all only had one position to play for. Sterling and Aubameyang would start most games, meaning their impact would have been reduced eventually. Frank lost connection with almost every senior player. There’s a big difference.
  9. ‘343, 433, 442 all in one game’ - and yet you only need to go back some pages in this thread to find people saying ‘why doesn’t he change something….change the system’. So you have people who complain when they can’t comprehend what they’re seeing or the flip side is your argument - that he didn’t know what he was doing by tweaking the system in-game to find solutions. If Pep loses, City fans have similar dichotomous arguments. There are four certainties in life: death, taxes, Chelsea firing managers, and most people, quite often, not knowing what the hell they are talking about.
  10. You give any of the managers of the top 8 clubs in the PL the squad that Zizu had and they'll have a good shot at winning the CL and La Liga. It's a great achievement, sure, but Tuchel is comfortably a better tactician and manager. Klopp is better than Zizu as well and may never win anything more than what he has already achieved.
  11. Sure and look at Liverpool. Other than some moments during Klopp's first few seasons, they've never impressed me with their style of football. And those initial years were largely shaped by the remnants of Rodgers. They've just been hyper efficient. Tuchel, with an inferior starting XI (and with everyone fit), showed the best version of 343 I've ever seen. Of course we never hit that level consistently for number of reasons. Liverpool have largely been horrendous this season, and couldn't even dream of having a performance like we had against Spurs. But Klopp will ride the wave and come out on the other side unscathed.
  12. Pain https___t.co_4fm1ZTfJeZ.mp4
  13. He's a young manager though....a whole two years younger than Tuchel. So there's that... AVB played some nice stuff at Porto. Rodgers played some nice stuff at Swansea. We've thrown away one of the best in the business for a pipe dream.
  14. Then you need Hazard, Fabregas, and Costa. God himself (the made up one, not Maradona) couldn't get this out of the current crop.
  15. Look, that's absolutely fair - you thinking he didn't have an idea on how to turn things around. And there will be others (including myself) who would be of the opposite opinion. But what you absolutely do not do is take his time away - especially from someone who has committed so much to this club in a short space of time. If this can happen to Tuchel at this point in the season, it can, and probably will, happen to his successors. We will remain a club that values inconsistent trophy hauls over legacy. And when the money dries up, what happens?
  16. Two years? I'd expect nothing over 18 months after they tell Pulisic and Ziyech to f-off, and ask Mase if he still thinks he's playing for the academy.
  17. It wasn't long ago that Potter went through a good stretch of games where Brighton looked clueless and their fans booed the team...
  18. Well said. With all that was going on in the background, it does feel worse than Carlo's. I pray the players and the board get an earful at the Bridge.
  19. Oh he is next in line for the sack. I'm sure he could be convinced...
  20. On the plus side though, it won't be a shock to my system. So I'm all for that actually.
  21. We had ONE midfielder who could complete 90 mins against Southampton. Have you watched them at all? They don't look threatening in the slightest. The only difference is their personnel in attack allows them play like sh*t and still win.
  22. I wish I had that ability. For me it's still like a knife in the heart each time. And here I was naively thinking our identity was about to change....
  23. We've seen some shocking decision-making over the years but this is right up there. Absolutely scandalous. Back on the f*cking merry-go-round.
  24. He deserves time. I give him until 5pm on Tuesday to turn it around. Why Tuesday you ask? Because we've heard just about every other random deadline in this thread - until Villa match, 3 games, 2 months, start of the World Cup, the next full moon....ffs.
