A worrying, but no doubt rubbish, rumour from an ITK...

... a Spurs ITK may I add ;) The only thing I'd say, is whenever he's mentioned ITK stuff in the past he's often been right.

This is a bit frothing but it's from a generally reliable ITK on a Spurs board.

Anyway, the story is that Roman apparently is going to phase himself out of Chelsea, and will have completely severed all ties in three years. The combination of the credit crunch, Abu Dhabi Group and it not being as easy as he thought it would be to totally dominate European football has made him decide enough is enough.

Take with a huge pinch.

I know there are a lot of rumours and speculation on this board already, but one that hasn't got it's own thread (afaik!) is the possibility of Roman calling it a day and trying to cut his ties with the club.

So, do you guys think this could be a possibility? As much as I don't want to believe it, a small part me does wonder whether maybe this is true.

If, and it is a huge if this happens.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

I think Roman is awesome and greatly appreciate all that he's done for us, but I'm in two minds, I mean obviously in the short term it'll be bad, very bad, but long term who knows? I'd also suggest we're better off now and slightly more self sufficient than we were a few seasons ago which will work in our favour.

We're certainly going to struggle to find a buyer in the current economic climate though.

I dont really know what to say about this, to be honest. I dont think its completely true, but it certainly would make sense given what we have seen in the way of transfer fees. There is something going on that we clearly arent privy to. I dont know if this is it, but it wouldnt be terribly far fetched.

If he is willing to phase himself out, as the guys claims, then hopefully he writes off those interest free loans and lets us lighten up the wage packet a bit through transfers.

Cant even imagine the bedelam that will ensue if this is true. But I think Blize your right in that we are a far more attractive option than 5 years ago for a buyer. Big stature in the world of modern football, recently won trophies, and have a generous fanbase at home and abroad.

But it would be far more preferrable if he sticks around for another 10 years at least, and we add a few more trophies in that time. Or as long as he wants, really :D

Agree with all of that mate. Not sure what it is, but I often find I could quite easily just quote your whole posts as your opinion seems to match mine so much! :)

Like I said, pretty sure there's nothing in it, but with him being so quiet about transfers in particular, it's got me thinking certainly.

Its from a Sperz board so we have to take it with a pinch of salt, just like they would take a 'Spurs to go into Administration' thread on here, however...

As others have said there is no doubt there is something going on. No one really knows. One thing that is for sure , and that is Roman doesn't come to half as many matches as he used to.

Spot on. Chelsea back to being a normal club ? Ive no problems with that and will have enjoyed the ride.

Anyway, no-one knows anything. Not least a schoolboy Spud on a Spud forum.

:)

I know it sounds ominous and again, probably isn't true, but the person who said it is pretty well in when it comes to Spurs stuff (he runs one of the main Spurs websites/podcasts) and his ITK info has generally been reliable until now, but we'll see - even he's dubious about this one though.

Either way, I'm sure things will work out.

Gents, I am (very) reliably informed that even if Roman did decide to pull out of Chelsea, an agreement exisits that over £200 million of Directors' loans would be written off.

This would make the Club very easy to sell as it would be relatively debt free.

I am also told that Bruce Buck would likely head up the purchasing consortium. Indeed Chelsea were apparently approached by a Far Eastern investor slap bang in the middle of the financial meltdown.

But Roman chose not to sell !!!!!
