Christmas Day 1977 - the pistols played a famous last ever UK gig in Huddersfield. The band came to town to play a gig at Ivanhoes in Manchester Road, after earlier hosting a party for children of firemen on strike.

Heard this band in the Seven Stars pub in Bristol last night. Popped into the pub for a couple of pints after yesterday's Women's League Cup Final.

Shone relatively briefly in the mid-50s until he shot himself in the head backstage during a break. Some alleged he was playing russian roulette, others say he was drunk, waving his gun around, claimed it wasn't loaded, put it to his head to prove it. Daft lad.

I always thought the Isley Brothers were responsible for the first iteration of Twist and Shout. Not so. Phil Spector produced The Top Notes in 1961. It failed. Co-writer Bert Burns - a now largely forgotten 60s legend - reworked it later for the Isleys. Though the Beatles' version reigns supreme, methinks.
