Any fans out there?

Anyone seen the film about his life, I'm not sure if it's been released yet? I've heard rave reviews about it so far, Durie is played by Andy Serkis.

He was well before my time but I remember 'Clever Trevor' and 'Rythem Stick' from when I was a kid. I heard one of his songs on the radio in the car with my dad and the lyrics had me in stitches. He told me to look up the lyrics to this one, (below) I thought they were hilarious, I think I'll try and get to see the film.

spoken)

Morning Reg, meat and two veg? He done him with a ten-pound sledge, he done himself a favour Crash!

Forty-year old housewife Mrs Elizabeth Walk of Lambeth Walk

Had a husband who was jubblified with only half a stalk

So she had a Milk of Magnesia and curry powder sandwich, half a pound of uncut pork

Took an overdose of Omo, this made the neighbours talk

(spoken)

Could have been watching Frankie Vaughn on the telly and giving herself a scratch

(Chorus)

This is what we find (x 4)

A sense of humour is required, amongst the bacon rind

(spoken)

Hello Brian, wash and iron? Try it on, it's only nylon

Single batchelor with little dog Tony Green of Turnham Green

Said 'who's a clever boy then girl, now you know whom I mean'

For the mongrel laid a cable in the sandpit of the playground of the park where they had been

And with a bit of tissue, he wiped its bumhole clean

(spoken)

A bit of claggy on the waggy

(Chorus)

This is what we find (x4)

They must have had a funny time, on the Golden Hind

(spoken, reverb)

O vanitas vanitatum, which of us is happy in his life

Which of us has our desire, or having it, is gratified

(spoken)

Hello Mrs Wood, this boy looks familiar, they used to call him Robin Hood.

Now he's Robin f**king sh*t c**t

Home improvement expert Harold Hill of Harold Hill

Of Do-It-Yourself dexterity, and double glazing skill

Came home to find another gentleman's kippers in the grill

So he sanded off his winkle with his Black and Decker drill

(Chorus)

This is what we find (x4)

The hope that springs eternal, springs right up your behind!

This is what we find (repeat to fade

With lyrics like this he was like a 'Goldie looking chain' way ahead of his time!

Will this sit well with the younger generation of today? Could Ian Durie have a second coming?

Ian Dury was an amazing talent and I'm very happy to hear that they are making a film. Andy Serkis is a great choice to play him too. I hope the film does him justice. Many classic numbers from him. Of course Reasons to be Cheerful, Rhytm Stick etc. did pretty well in the charts. But Spasticus Autisticus is one of my faves. Over here in Chicago that track is very popular with the disco/soul heads.

Great talent, and wonderfully weird with his lyrics. Think he suffered pretty bad with polio too, but loved his lifestyle.

The wife just got a tee shirt that reads "Sex and Drugs and Sausage Roll" think Durie would like that too!

hope the film is good

Drury was brilliant and the Blockheads great musicians

Hows this for a tenuous link...

When I finished college, me and a mate got jobs driving minicabs out of the Cab office that used to be right next to Fulham Broadway Station before it was developed.

One of my 'regulars' was Norman the bass player who lived in Delvino road. He used to ask for me 'specially' (for reasons I am am not prepared to put in writing) - often used to pick up 'Topper' (from The Clash) and take them both to recording Studios etc.

Norm gave me tickets to see them at a cinema in Streatham - one of the best bands Ive seen
