I've been watching this lad closely over the past few months, he is nearly on par with Messi and as an Argentine has the ideal make up for the Premiership. We made a massive mistake in not signing Tevez in the past and with the top four getting tighter and tighter he, not Ribery or Aguero is a must buy. I know Man Utd want him and would take Joe Cole on a free, but they are using the Cole interest as a smokescreen to nail the Benfica man. Joe Cole like the Lampard saga will run on and on, but ultimately he will sign a new deal.

Pace, trickery on the ball, it sticks like glue, an eye for goal, a sharp twist and turn to create a chance, pace and desire and at the age where a sell on fee makes financial sense, a la Ronaldo if Real Madrid coming calling in 5 years time. He is that good, take it from me.

I need to watch this kid for a full 90 minutes, beyond youtube clips or highlight packages. But the first thing I think when I look at him is that he is about as thick as a digestive biscuit. At 22 years old, that is a bad sign.

Add to that the fact that he is the flavor of the month right now, and there will probably be a vicious bidding war over him in the summer. Could see Inter, Barca, City, the Mancs and a few more in for his signature bigtime.

In my opinion, if we are going to go all in on one player, that player should be Sergio Lionel Aguero. He's actually still younger than Di Maria and despite an offyear is far more experienced at the top level of the game.

You dont think there will be a bidding war for him if it turns out he is available?

But i agree with you that there is a need to see more of Di Maria.

Edit: Also "nearly on a par with messi"? Are you sure?

He is nowhere near as talented as you say. He is not even close to somebody like Messi. The one thing he has going for him is his ball skills. He is very good with the ball. You say he has a good eye for the goal, but he NEVER scores. We have players that don't score from the midfield. We don't need another. Plus, we are set onteh left side. We have Cole, Malouda, Yuri, Kakuta, Sturridge, and Matic. All are left footed and have years in front of them. We don't need a guy that can ONLY play onthe left wing.

Now don't get me wrong, Di Maria is a good player. He would bring instant talent and depth to the team, but he just doesn't fit the system that we run here. He is limited to a single position, on the left wing, and we don't use a left winger that often.

He's definitely got plenty of skill and pace, but he doesn't seem like the type of player who is going get loads of goals, as aguero would, who in my opinion should be at the top of every top clubs shopping list, and I think will shine at the World Cup if Argentina can keep it together

but he NEVER scores.

Though the goalkeeping wasn't top drawer !

But I agree it's a part of his game that needs improving overall, his record since 2005 has been pretty average, though he has scored some important goals in Olympic and U20 games early in his career.

What I am saying he is the nearest thing in the modern game to Messi and his attitude and mentality makes him perfect for the premiership. Messi himself has earmarked him as a world class talent and the one player that will develop into the name bracket of Ronaldo.

I like Aquero, always have, but feel his wages will never see him a blue. Ferguson wants Di Maria badly and here is a man who took a chance with Ronaldo, Kakuta for me will be best behind the front two, he needs to get into games, as for Matic i've said it already, he should be getting gametime, he is better than anything in our reserves but he is a Ballack type of player and like all our managers over the years the sun shines out of his backside whatever his performance.

Benfica are not on great wages, he would come here to the restrictions we are applying these days and would also have a sell on fee and as i've said in four years time I believe he will improve to be in the Ronaldo price bracket, FIFA also want clubs to be debt free around that time.

It's all about opinions anyway and I respect yours, even if I don't agree

Oh, there will be a fight over his signature, I am sure.

But this summer might be the best time to really really press for his signature, for the following reasons...

1. he has been linked with us and we have clearly come close to deals in the past, so its clear the player is interested and he is on the radar

2. he has had an off year, and many of press and FM crowd will have jumped off his nuts. If we can fly under the radar and offer something in the neighborhood of 30ish, Atletico might bite. I think the team and El Kun realize he has taken them about as far as he can, and that its time for reinvstment in the squad and the next young talent.

3. Madrid are talking about Ribery, Barca about Torres and Fabregas, the mancs about surviving as a going concern. I think City have stocked themselves up front for the next few years, and will worry about a bigtime midfielder or defender this summer. To me, Aguero and Tevez in the same team is almost redundant as they both have a very similar game and would probably limit eachother.

4. 21 freaking years of age. Younger than even Di Maria. And plenty of time to adjust to the premier league.

edit: forgot about the world cup. There is no way they would sell him unless he has a so-so tournament. If he has a great one, he is as good as City's

I live in hope of the Kun

look at the focus in those eyes

Di Maria is the closest thing to Messi?

Come on now, he's playing in Portugal for Benfica. He's got a long way to go before even being mentioned in the same breath as Messi. Now Aguero showed on many occasions against top opposition that he has an ability to rival the world's best so in a better team there's a good chance he'll be able to reach that level.

Agreed, Quaresma always looked pretty good in Portugal, and look how that one turned out!

Which time would that be?

It would have been quarter past four one afternoon when he put in a cross which found one of our players
