Chelsea and Carlo Ancelotti have mutually agreed to part company in the summer, according to football agent Carrie Baird.

In a video piece for Sports Illustrated, Baird revealed that the 51-year-old would be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the current campaign whatever the outcome of their return to form in the Premier League and Champions League. With Ancelotti continually linked to his former club Roma and owner Roman Abramovich yearning for the days when Chelsea won games with an avalanche of goals perhaps it is no surprise that this decision has been reached.

However, Chelsea fans would be forgiven for not getting too excited by the list of names that have been linked to the job. Baird also said that one of the following would be in the hotseat next season: Frank Rijkaard, Marco van Basten and Henk ten Cate.

With Rijkaard having recently been fired by Galatasaray, van Basten having been out of work for almost two years and former Chelsea coach ten Cate having failed at his last two managerial appointments – Panathinaikos and Al Ahly of UAE – the Dutch trio hardly represent the best candidates available.

However, they might be more inclined to adhere to Abramovich's philosophy with the Russin seemingly intent to have a more hands on role in the footballing department.

It's just another example of journalists(and I use that term in the loosest sense of the word here) being forced to make stuff up because Roman doesn't speak to them.
