Elgin City vs Rangers (SFL 3rd) 22/12/2012 KO 12:30 GMT

Featured Replies

Tuesday's eventful victory at Annan on Tuesday saw Rangers stretch their run of successive league wins to seven, widening the gap over second place Elgin to six points. Elgin themselves are unbeaten in their last nine league games, but have won only three of the last ten.

Early team news is that Rangers are to appeal against Lee Wallace's mysterious sending off, and so he will be available both for this match and for the Boxing Day fixture against Clyde.

I don't know much about Ranger's situation after getting reinstated in the 3rd division, but did they manage to hold on to some of their players? Because they seem to be head and shoulders above their opposition.

Rangers kept hold of a handful of their players, but the majority of the side are youngsters.

Rangers lost international players such as Steven Davis (Southampton), Maurice Edu (Stoke). Alan McGregor (a club in Turkey), Kyle Lafferty (Switzerland somewhere) Steven Whittaker (Norwich) in the summer

Many chose to walk for no fee.

Players such as Lee McCulloch, Lee Wallace and Neil Alexander remained, the rest were last minute buys or mostly youngsters.

All respect to the blokes who stayed, unless you're in your late 20s and need to be playing top football for your peak years, I don't see why players that love the club wouldn't just stick around for the 2 years it will take to get back to where they were.

Match highlights, better late than never:

I can never remember his name, but you've got to love the Rangers TV commentator: "Quite simply sensational!"

Some players who claimed to have been 'Rangers supporters all their lives'. Couldn't get out the door fast enough.
