Possible Scenario

United are due to meet Chelsea at the bridge on the 14th april, coincidently that collides with the FA CUP Semi Finals.

Now if either team reaches the semis then that match would have to be rescheduled.

Looking around the Net ( someone please correct me if i'm wrong) this match might be played before the last game of the season.

Can you imagine how Massive this would be if the title depended on it.

I have a question, has the premiership ever been won on the last game of the season, with both clubs that have a chance of winning, playing eachother? I can't remember any?

the premiership, I don't think so. There has been times (blackburn I think) where it came down to the last games of the season, but never with top playing second in a winner-takes-all scenario

I can rememember one time(in the 80's I think)when arsenal had to go to the scousers and win by at least 2 goals to win the title..which they did in a terrific game..the bloke who scored both goals was later transfered there ..bolted doors and horses come to mind icon_razz.gif

I think you're right Rick, as I recall it was the last game of 88-89 season and it was at Anfield, Liverpool v Arsenal, the scouse were top with the arse second (no! this isn't a fictional account!) and to win the title Arsenal needed to win by 2 clear goals, they were leading 1-0 deep into stoppage time and the scousers thought they had it wrapped up, John Barnes & co were all looking at each other smiling & winking, giving the thumbs up to one & other etc, then Michael Thomas played a 1-2 on the edge of the box and put the ball in the net with virtually the last kick of the whole season.

Other than the Arsenal/Liverpool in 1988 the closest i can remember was in 1999 - the year Man Utd did the treble. Arsenal were two points behind with a better goal difference I seem to recall. Man Utd had Tottenham at home so amazingly Arsenal fans were cheering for Tottenham. Man Utd won 2-1 so it was all irrelevant.

We finished 4th that year and i still maintain that we shouldve won it. Two draws , at home to Leicester and away to Wednesday cost us dear at a crucial stage. We lost Poyet on Boxing Day at the Dell for 3 months due to an awful challenge by some Morrocan - he was in top form and our top scorer, if we had held on to him it couldve made the difference.

Man Utd did the treble that you and it was a stunning acheivemnt but everyone seems to forget just how close they came to winning nothing. The League was only decided on the last day, they survived a last minute missed penalty by Arsenal in the FA Cup semi and of course we all know what happened 'that night in Barcelona' (copyright Clive Tydlesley)
