Sad news today that the great commentator has passed away.

 

Bit spooky 'cos about a week ago I was driving to work and something made me think about him and at the time I wondered if he was still alive and I thought I'd look him up on google. But of course by the time I got to work many other thoughts had gone through my head and I forgot all about it only for the news to break today.

 

He was one of the greats and as a kid in the '70's it was a treat to be allowed to stay up on a school night and watch Sportsnight with Coleman.

That's doubly spooky because I had near enough the exact same experience last week.

RIP.

I remember feeling sad when he retired as he had obviously declined in health and his departure coincided with the BBC not being able to compete with Sky and losing a lot of TV sport.

A great presenter and commentator. His voice was very easily immitated and we used to repeat his phrases at school etc.

Can't say I remember him but very sad time for he's family to lose a loved one. RIP

A cracking commentator at both football and athletics. He had a great athletics 'double act' with the late Ron Pickering.
