Falcao

Featured Replies

A lot of negative comments about Falcao but I think we need to understand his game. His movement and runs were excellent but the ball didn't arrive. Give it time and I think he could be a star for us. Just my opinion..

Was at the game and from what I saw he looke good. Haven't seen the highlights up close to see what he actually did though. Agree his touches were nice and he worked hard. Had a couple of chances where he could have got a shot off (through ball over the top from Fabregas?) but certainly not an awful display.

He doesn't seem to have that need to grab the ball and try to beat 3/4 that Torres developed. Actually just sat and remembered how bad he was when we'd all be screaming for him to score. Never seen a player just lose it like he did.

Don't speak to soon and tempt fate, lol. Could be Torres mark II still, you never know!

Don't really see any difference yet between this Falcao and the one at Man United when we all laughed at him. I'm hoping for the best though because we'll need him.

Very short pre-season for most of our players and an evern shorter one for him. He has spent little to no time with his new team mates and came on when the gooners had decided to park the bus some what. (Not having a go at it at all, infact I respect what they did) We controlled the second half but chasing the game it just didn't come of for us. Lets see how he does in mid week and against swans.

By the way, is any one else a bit mythed about this game on Wednesday, and where is it exactly?

Yes I think it's absurd. Never known a friendly game 3 days before kick off. Having said that our players clearly need some element of sharpness. Said this before somewhere else but I think our whole pre season has been a balls up personally.

As for Falaco there's a thread in the general section, but I think he's already getting the Torres excuse treatment.

one moment encapsulated the two sides of him yesterday.

fabregas gets the ball, looks up and falcao has already made his move. a nice bit of movement and he's onside. then instead of controlling it and using his body to put himself between the ball and koscielny for a 1v1 chance he was easily dispossessed.

allowing for the fact it was pre season, he's behind the other players anyway and that no-one other than willian looks completely sharp yet it was still a worry. he's a great natural finisher. maybe the best in the league since van nistelrooy, and he could play for us the way someone like inzaghi played, applying the final touch. but I really doubt we'll see an explosive player capable of playing with his back to goal.

in which case we might be in a situation where the squad only has one (injury prone) player capable of playing up front alone.

Was at the game yesterday, and I would echo sentiments of us looking a bit light on goals.

It's been my main concern (that, and the lack of fitness) going into this season and Costa's most recent hamstring trouble has only reaffirmed that point.

We heavily rely on Costa & Hazard, and the likes of Oscar and Willian need to start scoring more.

Remy floats in and out of games and doesn't really lead the line.

Falcao looks as though he could be too lightweight.

It's going to take a significant improvement from a few of the other forwards if we are to keep pace with the rest.

It kind of reminds me of our 2006/07 season (the first after losing Eidur) when we were relying on Drogba as our number one choice, with Sheva and Kalou as back up. Alot of us felt it wasn't enough to hold on to the title, which turned out to be the case.

Guess it may be a cup season after all!
