I remember the return game at the Bridge and the chant was you only win when it's snowing. Sparky wearing a short sleeved shirt and no gloves whilst the others have gloves and long sleeved shirts.

Red Star Belgrade and AC Milan play a European Cup match in thick fog. The match was abandoned with Red Star 1-0 upNov 1988 European Cup. Second Round Second Leg. Belgrade.

The first leg was a 1-1 draw in the San Siro.

The first match pictured above in Belgrade had to be abandoned with Red Star 1-0 up on a 10-man AC Milan.

Milan were a goal down and a man down against Red Star, with the game into the second half when the ref was forced to abandon proceedings.

A replay over 90 minutes was scheduled for the next day, the score back at 0-0. 1-1 from the first leg

AC Milan won the replayed match on penalties. It had ended 1-1 with Van Basten and Savicevic both scoring. So ended 2-2 on aggregate.

And would on to win the European Cup that season.

The conditions were so bad during the first game  Arrigo Sacchi had to be informed that Dejan Savicevic had put Red Star ahead. He’d  had missed the goal.

And so the story goes he only discovered that Pietro Paolo Virdis had been sent off when he turned to the striker back inside the dressing room and spotted that he was already fully clothed.

"It was impossible to play, we just heard the voices of the fans who were screaming that there had been a goal and it was 1-0 to them. It was surreal. Then, the referee suspended the match. We did not know that we were going to play the next day. We knew nothing."

Barcelona airport, the morning after Rangers won the European Cup Winners Cup in May 1972.

A great night for Rangers. Some fine players in that team. I have a replica of the shirt.
