The Scotland v Brazil friendly match above was played at Hampden on Sat 25th June 1966. A 1-1 draw in front of a crowd of 74,933.

The Scottish domestic season had ended on 4th May 1966 and it would have been just a week before most Scottish clubs returned for their 1966/67 Pre Season Training !!

On this date in 1986 Rangers played Celtic at Ibrox and the final score was 4-4. On the same day we won 1-0 at Southampton and the next day we beat Man. City 5-4 in the Full Members Cup Final. For those who were at Ibrox and Wembley it was goals galore.

Amazing to think that Edmiston Drive was part of the A9.  This was the main Glasgow to Greenock road until the mid 1970s, when the M8 Motorway was completed!   Obviously the traffic was diverted on match days!!😀

Boyne or Ersk, looked up the final to see it was between the Old Firm and the managers were Jock Wallace and Jock Stein which given political correctness these days is a little unusual now growing up of course I recall jokes about Scots and 'Jock' being used as a term of reference.

However looking at their Christian names they are both names as John, was John the only name traditionally changed to Jock?

Strider: I think for Jock Wallace it was because his father was also called John. Not sure about Jock Stein. As far as I’m aware John-was the only name traditionally changed to Jock. I may be completely wrong!😀

My Dad was given the name John but everyone called him Jack. On occasions though he was called Jackie by his siblings. People in parts of Scotland and the North of England would call men Jackie. Can think of two examples: the Newcastle United player, Jackie Milburn and the Celtic footballer, Jackie  McNamara.

The only times that my Dad used John was when completing official documents.

Boyne:Cheers, just remembered one of my mates in my late teens was called Jack. Yet his name was John.

On this date in 1995 the great man left us. As I've mentioned before the best British footballer I've seen.

Fantastic left foot. He carried Rangers at times until the arrival of Graeme Souness in 1986. Saw him play for Clydebank before he signed for Rangers.

That is one of my favourite Rangers shirts.

Agree with you. The picture also shows quite a large section of the Copland Road Terracing.

The Copland Road terracing would be demolished in June/July 1978 as Ibrox changed. Three new stands would be  built over three years and  replaced the terraces.
