A wet Saturday morning up here.

Saw a couple of pictures recently that reminds me of playing on such wet Saturdays as a youngster.

Also of watching my two boys playing for their respective teams until they were about 17.

Great pictures. Takes me back to my youth when I though I could play football. Even some of the pitches at top clubs were bad. The Baseball Ground was arguably the worst. There was a game there where on of the staff had to come on to the pitch and re-paint the penalty spot.

Thanks for posting.

Back in the day me and workmates used to play football in Green Park near Buckingham Palace. We were a lot younger and fitter. As it was a park there were obviously no markings. Jumpers for goalposts and paths doubled up as touch lines. Pitch could get muddy and was bumpy. During one game a group of tourists decided to walk through the middle of it. One or two nearly got hit by the ball.

Birkmyre Park, Port Glasgow

Boyne. The old grassy pitch shown above. The one we all used to play on regularly as youngsters, was actually a decent enough pitch.
It hadn’t been used for a few years and the old goalposts had been taken away. It was also reasonably sheltered by large trees on two sides. We thought it was brilliant. And the pitch surface was actually in better condition than some of the pitches we played on for the School teams!😀
