Posted August 31, 20168 yr Let's add another one to the pile. This one is currently on the bench for West Ham. Antonio Conte has asked Chelsea to sign West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna, though David Luiz is an alternative. According to Sky Sport Italia, Conte still wants to bring in another defender and midfielder on transfer deadline day – on top of Fiorentina full-back Marcos Alonso at €27m. They claim the favourite is Italy international Ogbonna, who worked with Conte at Juventus and is currently in the Premier League with West Ham. David Luiz would be a very expensive alternative at €32m from Paris Saint-Germain. http://www.football-italia.net/90681/conte-wants-ogbonna-chelsea
August 31, 20168 yr If we're nicking a centre-back from the Pikeys I'd rather go for Winston Reid - quality defender.
August 31, 20168 yr Author Who was the last player we signed from them anyway? Joe Cole? This does sound like a rumor based purely on the Conte link. Although the player may actually be more attainable that most of the other names we've been linked to.

He's already had a season in the Premier League (basically as a starter at a strong side) and has worked with Conte before, both with club and country. He's never struck me as an exceptional defender, but he's physically strong (and fairly quick), reasonably solid, and I think we could do a lot worse if all we are seeking is someone to cover at centre back (and is certainly preferable to David Luiz). I wouldn't judge him too harshly for not being a regular starter at Juventus; he still managed to rack up 55 appearances in two seasons of deputising for Chiellini, Bonucci and Barzagli. That said, this link doesn't seem to have a great deal of weight behind it. I imagine it's just another case of somebody picking a name at random off the list of defenders Conte has worked with in the past.
