This could be interesting.

Both of this year's Scottish League Cup semi-finals will be played at Hampden Park on the same day in October.

Aberdeen will play Rangers at 12:00 GMT before Hearts face Celtic at 19:45 on Sunday, 28 October after talks between the clubs, Police Scotland and the Scottish Professional Football League.

SPFL secretary Ian Blair said this was the "best and most practical solution".

He added that Police Scotland advised that the Aberdeen v Rangers game should be played first.

The decision was taken because both Old Firm sides play Europa League group matches on Thursday, 25 October.

Despite being suggested as a possible venue, Murrayfield will not be used as the SPFL is contractually obliged to stage the semi-finals at Hampden unless advised otherwise by the police.

SPFL avoid 'major fixture congestion'

It will be the first time Celtic and Rangers have played in Glasgow on the same day since 1983, when they were involved in Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden and Celtic Park.

Two domestic semi-finals have never been staged at Hampden on the same day.

Blair said the SPFL had been "working hard with Police Scotland and Hampden Park" and "examined every possible permutation".

"Any alternative had the knock-on effect of causing major fixture congestion, not only for Celtic and Rangers, but for several other clubs," Blair continued in a statement.

"The fact both Celtic and Rangers are in Europe, and will hopefully be playing in the Europa League after the New Year, is obviously good news for Scottish football, but it does mean that our capacity for rescheduling games is significantly curtailed."

I think that's crazy, can only be that the SRFU wouldn't let them have Murrayfield

Agree. It would have been so much easier if one game was played at Hampden Park and the other at Murrayfield. It's yet another cock-up from the SPFL. They would have known ages ago that there were Europa League games on 25 October and should have assumed that both Old Firm teams would still be in Europe and in the Semi-finals. Aberdeen fans aren't happy as the trains from that part of the country don't arrive into Glasgow until after kick-off. I read the other day that Scotrail weren't consulted prior to the SPFL's announcement; of they had, they may have been able to plan for earlier trains.

I can't believe that the police agreed to both games being played on the same day. Sadly, I think that there will be trouble.

Looking forward to today's semi finals. I fancy Hearts to get a result and think Rangers should have too much for Aberdeen. Here's hoping anyway!

Can see Hearts getting a result against them. Rangers should win as well - I hope so anyway. Hope to see the second half of the game as am at a family meal this afternoon.

Hearts were disappointing.

First half of the Rangers/Aberdeen match has been a good watch. I'd just like to see a little more decisiveness from Rangers in the final third, we've good possession but not much end result.

a bit laboured for much of today's game but Morelos made a difference in the last 20 mins and a 3-0 win was pretty satisfactory. still on their tails...come on Rangers

A good result yesterday. A couple of tricky games coming up with Hearts away and Aberdeen at home. Winning those will do wonders for the 'Gers confidence. And then at end of December at home to them. WATP.

good performance tonight, especially 2nd half with 10 men. I thought for a moment Lafferty might nick it for us but wasn't to be. still in it going in to the last group match although a win away in Vienna is a big ask

come on Rangers!

So great to see the 'Gers at the top of the League. Long may it continue. Here's to beating Aberdeen on Wednesday. I must get up to Ibrox this season. Hopefully, I can borrow a season ticket from one of my cousins.

Another win for the 'Gers and with Celtic slipping up puts them back on top of the table. Just need to get a win at Hibernian which won't be easy. Counting down the days to the game on the 29th. WATP.

Disappointed for Rangers tonight - played well, created chances, were denied by some decent goal-keeping and ended 0-0

A little good fortune in front of goal and we'd have had the 3 points.

Agree. Played well and had some great chances. The Hibs goalie played well. Thought the 'Gers should have had a penalty last night. Here's to a win against St. Johnstone on Sunday.

Incredible journey though for the Gers !!! From the deep waters of division 4 back in 2012, to 2nd in the league in 2018 ... Never thought the recovery would be so quick !! Truly, I hope Rangers clinch the league this year and shut septic park once and for all ! The only downside, is that it would mean gerrard would get a premiership medal :laugh2::laugh2:!!
