Brazil dominated the 1970 World Cup and Pelé was at the heart of it all.

With amazing skill, that make it seem like he was on another level.

The greatest, he invented so many moves and didn't have any weakness as a player. In these modern times he would be even more potent with the refs protecting star players and with modern medicine and gear.

Here's one, think he would be more widely recognised yet was being played out of position for some time internationally thanks to competition from Torres, from the 3 min you see 5 of his goals.

We were linked with him at one time near the end of his career in La Liga

Michael Laudrup v Uruguay Mexico 86

Some goal.

Just thought he was some player for Denmark.

It was a shame they missed out on two world cups Laudrup might have shone in '82 and '90, this has a few more international goals:

When they won Euro 92, after having initially not qualified.

They replaced Yugoslavia.

That has got to be one of the best ever sporting achievements.

47 - Gerry Armstrong: Northern Ireland v Spain 1982 - 90 World Cup ...Euro 2016: Gerry Armstrong made history in '82 and says our lads ...

25th June 1982.

Northern Ireland 1-0 Spain. Against all the odds.

One of the best British Isles Team performances I've ever seen in a World Cup Finals Match.

25th June – Today In Our Footballing History

25/06/1982 Valencia Spain 1-0 Gerry Armstrong

Pat Jennings, Jimmy Nicholl, Mal Donaghy, Chris Nicholl, John McClelland, David McCreery, Norman Whiteside (Sammy Nelson), Martin O’Neill, Billy Hamilton, Gerry Armstrong, Sammy McIlroy (Tommy Cassidy)

Northern Ireland went into the match with Spain needing to defeat the tournament hosts in their own back yard (Estadio Luis Casanova Stadium, Valencia) to guarantee qualification for the second round group stage. In fact all four teams in the group (the other two being Yugoslavia and Honduras) could in theory qualify for the next stage. Yugoslavia and Spain were the two favourites to qualify from Group 5 after previous results and the expectant victories in their final group matches against Honduras and Northern Ireland respectively. Spain however, had only drawn with Honduras in their first match with a penalty saving their blushes while Yugoslavia had drawn 0-0 with Northern Ireland. In the second round of matches Spain defeated Yugoslavia while Northern Ireland drew 1-1 with Honduras

From memory I’m sure I watched that Northern Ireland v Spain game at a Youth Club barbecue, The place erupted when Gerry Armstrong scored,

Amazing what I can remember footballing wise. Different story when it comes to remembering what the Mrs asks me to do !
