youlots Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I know he hasn't been 1st choice for much of the season; I know that he's scored some crucial goals in certain games aas a sub; I know he's young & underdone & possibly our/my disappointment with Sheva vis a vis Drogs outstanding season has led me to question Kalou of late & his long term viability with us; I just don't think he's ever going to gel with Drogs. Am I wrong?
g3.7 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 hi again mate. I think drogba is... 28 ot 29 right, and kalou is 21? so I think the team kalou will be a part of in the future will be a team with mikel and essien, without drogba and others around that age. there is also the question of if his long term future is even as a striker- he might end up playing wide more often. for those reasons alone, I don't think whether kalou gels with drogba or not can be a reason to call into question his future here.
High Street Ken Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 there is also the question of if his long term future is even as a striker- he might end up playing wide more often. Yeah, that's a tough call. He's got the pace alright to play wide but it would be a shame to lose his obvious aerial power and ability in the box, which will only get better as he learns the striker's trade.
mad_mac Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 I think he could play nicely as a secondary striker, but his ability to run behind defenders is always a great thing, so he can be used wide also. A great problem for us to have!
evissy Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 He usually passes the final, crucial, pass either too slowly or just in the wrong place. Sometimes he should just do what Robben does and shoot from too tight angle and hope for rebounds(Robben usually thinks he can score from anywhere due to his superhigh dutch selfconfidence ) I mean he can get behind the defending line easily, but when it is time to make that decisive pass or move he usually makes the wrong choice. He's young and he will get his touch right eventually. Hope next season.

Sure he is young and hopefully he will improve when it comes to that final ball decision making. But some players never do learn - Gronkjar (it's been a while since he played for us so that spelling is well wrong - but you all know who I mean!!). For me, at the moment, and certainly next season, kalou would still be a back up player, not one who plays every week.
