May 21, 20233 yr Ahead of the legendary Lovejoys wake next Saturday- he went by train from Coventry to Pompey for the night game in 84- so ratted he was refused entrance. Not an isolated story with him. I’ve been on the top tier of the East Stand having to watch the game with one eye shut- otherwise they’re be 22 players on the pitch. Also confess to having watched us straight from clubbing off me tits. ( Hope me Mum don’t get on this forum) Any similar experiences?
May 21, 20233 yr Author Swinging from branch to branch, another Lovejoy story. We had Marseille in the Champions League 98- rented a villa in St Tropez- it was February and dead as a dodo. A splinter movement including yours truly decided to hightail it to Nice where they’re was more action- as the cab was pulling away Lovejoy came running out in his undies clutching their equivalent of the Yellow Pages “ You’d be bonkers to go now. They’ve got three pages of brasses in ‘ere”
May 21, 20233 yr Palace away 88 had been on the piss with my old man who could drink Guinness without any effect at all. Rang a mate from the pub those were the days met up at the tube station he still talks about it today I had a six pack on the train long way from Harlesden to Palace he didn't have one as everyone knows nothing worse then being cold stone sober when someone is pissed. He said I shouted abuse at the Palace fans and players for 90 minutes met a couple of geezers who I knew a couple of weeks later saying they were having bets on how long before I got chucked out normally they would have come and joined us but not when I was in such a state. Luckily I was off work for a couple of days had such a bad hangover I gave up smoking and only started again when someone bought me 200 JPS for Christmas 🤣
May 21, 20233 yr Author Munich 3005/-early morning flight from London City Airport- a few of them were unzipping tins at 9 in the morning. Boozy afternoon- one fella got plastered, slept through his alarm, and watched the second half in the hotel lounge. Definitely not invited to my wine and cheese party

May 21, 20233 yr Leicester away april 1980 My brother was a student there and persuaded the landlord of his local pub to open up the back room for us at 10 in the morning .Having drunk our way up to the midlands we just carried on to our surprise when we got to Filbert street the bar in the enclosure to the left of the Leicester fans was open. This enabled us to top up as this enclosure was also full of chelsea every time i heard a loud cheer i thought Leicester had scored. By half time i thought we were 3-0 down, it was 0-0 at the time i think. Sadly the bar shut at half time so we endured a 1-0 defeat, After the game we somehow entered the middle enclosure aka the Leicester end, they seem to have moved on to the pitch. However we were few in number but it didn,t hurt and a morale victory had been achieved. My brother drove us back to wiltshire via some very nice country pubs along the fosse way.

Been to games when ive actually stayed in the pub instead of walking to the ground ! Had to lie to the misses about the game when I got home !
May 21, 20233 yr Shrewsbury away in the snow. We played in white. I thought that there were about forty players on the pitch. Special Brew was the main culprit.
