Perhaps not the best idea for a first date but everyone should see this film.

You dont need to know about Joy Division, or Ian Curtis.

Its stunning, shot beautifully by Anton Corbijn (as always), dont expect thrills and laughsand dont expect Jude Law but you will be captivated and Sam Riley who plays Curtis is awesome, Absolutely awesome. He is Ian Curtis.

Despite being a huge fan of JD and being aware of what happens having read countless books and magazine on the subject i was still left numb.

Best British movie for f**king years.

Very much looking forward to seeing it Barney - I was reading about it last night. Am hoping to 'persuade' Catherine's mum to babysit for a night soon so we can go to the cineman and watch it. Over an hour each way to the nearest cinema so she may take some persuading as it takes her over an hour to driver here from her house.

I dont think its going on mass release, we had to hunt down a student fleapit here in Dublin that was showing it - so you might struggle for Clydebank Loz!

I was planning on seeing it at a local Film Festival, but naturally I missed it because of work.

BTW...while we're on the subject of films about music, has anyone managed to see Julian Temple's documentary about Joe Strummer(The Future is Unwritten)? Is it any good?

Finally saw it tonight (cheers Chippy) and fully endorse what BJD said. I actually found it eerily disturbing how well Riley seemed to adopt Ian Curtis' skin. Not just him though, Joe Anderson's Peter Hook and Pearson's Bernard Sumner were also right on the money and the star of the show (other than Riley) was Samantha Morton's portrayal of Debbie Curtis which was stunning.

Anton Corbijn does an amazing job, with his greatest feat being the manner in which the relationship between Ian and Debbie is deteriorated by the scenes in which they don't appear as a couple rather than those that they do.

It is very very wrong that a film like 'The Doors' gets a worldwide (well at least Western society) audience and this gets a few backstreet cinemas.

It's finally arrived in Sweden well Göteborg - its had a double spread write-up two days running and big ads in the paper and to top that it's on at the best cinema in town.

Now just have to find the time
