Oblivion

Recommended Posts

This post deals with 2 issues regarding next season.

1) Do you think the passing of Mrs Lamps have an effect on Frankie Jr staying? I believe his dad is still around (Wiki doesn't say anything) so would that motivate him to remain in England, to keep an eye on his dad. Most average people have a tendency to do that, staying/coming home to look after the remaining parent after the other has passed away. Will Frank do the same? No doubt he's expressed his desire to remain at the club beyond this season, but will his mom's passing strengthen his resolve to stay?

2) What do you think of the following XI:

........................Cech

Ferreira......Alex........Terry........Cole

.........................Mikel

................. Essien.....Ballack

Kalou....................................Cole

.........................Anelka

The above list is the best XI I could come up with from players NOT being linked away from the club, even the slightest. These players have not been rumoured to be wanting out and have not be all that atrocious to begin with, so I'll assume they're staying. A testament to the depth of our squad perhaps, that line-up certainly looks like it could win games quite a bit. Beyond that of course, we've got very little cover, so shopping is in order, but TBH, i'm very optimistic about next season. How many teams out there can go through a season like what we have experienced, piss off half the squad, and without spending a single dime, technically send out a full squad of internationals to play next season? Very few I tell you.

What does this mean? For me, it simply means that as far as team re-building is concerned, its not a major overhaul, short of a major system-revamp. I like the look of the above squad, and if the club handles things well, we'll have even more of the current squad being retained.

The ones I'd like to see leave are:

SWP, Ben Haim, Drogba, Sheva, Pizarro, Belletti, Sidwell

That's 3 forwards, 2 defenders and 2 midfielders. We'll need to replace them with a forward, a defender and a winger, with Di Santo, Sinclair and Boularouz joining the first team. Yes I want to give Boula another chance. We all know what he can do, so why not?

Thoughts?

Hate to mess up your post, but unfortunately there's talk of both Essien, Ferreria and Ballack leaving. :(

Still, we'll see how it goes, although the team you posted still looks ace considering who's missing. Also consider we'll buy new players to replace the old ones. Even better!

Eh? I missed those I guess. Well in that case, replace Ferreira with Belletti, Essien with Maka and Ballack with Malouda and we have a pretty good team anyway....

Ok, for discussion's sake, lets assume that those 3 don't leave... sadwalk.gif

i'd like to see belleti stay, and move him up a bit, he would be excellent as the right sided midfielder

and then push kalou in a bit and play him along side anelka in a 4-4-2

as well as considering players that are supposedely on the way out , we have to look at accomadating the players we have been linked to coming in, which is just about every man and his dog at the moment, so your original starting 11 oblivion might only have a couple of the mentioned players

I'm just going to respond to point 1 for the time being.

It's something I have wondered myself. Frank Snr is still extremely mobile, and although the passing of his wife may alter that slightly, I don't think he'll need looking after (of course I could be wrong here). What I think will determine if Frank Jr stays is if he can look up at the spot his mother has been watching him play for what? 7/8 years and still get his head in the game. Will Stamford Bridge itself hold too many memories?

The club have been brilliant with him, so have the fans and not to mention his fellow team-mates. That could also swing him, would he get that type of support anywhere else?

We'll see, Frank will have a clear Summer to decide what he wants to do.

I wasn't aware his mom went to games. I know his dad did, but not his mom. That will certainly factor in to his decision. The Lampards appear a close-knit group, and Frank has been mentally conditioned from young to stay focussed on his football. I believe he will rise up, and play for his mom, even though she's not physically there anymore.

As you have said, everyone's been good to him, so there's no real professional complaint that could force him to leave. Hopefully he stays.

After watching the champions league match today i would like Grant to go and get Messi and replace kalou with him. Also i think the back 4 looks a bit weaker with that lineup, I like Alex but Riccy has played brilliantly most of this year, but is Alex a better goal scorer? I am not really sure. Nonetheless, that squad looks suitable, and add £100 million worth of newcomers to that list and were good to go!

I think that Frank's future will have a lot more to do with:

1. Whether Grant stays on and

2. Where Jose ends up

than anything to do with his family.

I think that Frank has lost his "untouchable" spot under Grant, and that he would rather follow Jose to Barca than to Italy.

Ohh yeah, Barcelona are just going to give us Messi...

Well Qaz they might give the Messiah up if (the) Roman(s) (love it!) give em enough dosh: Say $50 million euros. What's that to Roman - so he has to forgo that new fit-out on the fleet later this year. So what. If he wants entertainment at the colliseum he has to pay for it.

I think we'd need something closer to 100 million to get Messi, maybe more.

Alright so he forgoes his new fitouts for 2 years. Whatever.

You could practically build a side from scratch for 100 million. Sven practically did for half that.

Messi may be an excellent player, but there are plenty of great players out there available for far less. Hell, spend 25 million each on 4 top top class youngsters. If you choose well, you will get far more value and bang for your buck than spending 100 million on any on player (even if that player is Messi).

You're right, your right, what can I say. Apart from Shev that is....Messiah has got to be twice the player Shev ever was...anyway I was having a joke (nerves and all that). Who knows what the crazy owner's plans are? Still think he'd look good at the Bridge though....

would you rather Kaka for 50 or 60 million or perhaps Bentley for 12 to 15 million?

kaka- please let us have more ambitious plans than bentley.

I think Bentley would be a great addition to our team, great service from the right, something we are struggling with at the moment.

but the point I was trying to put across was, which deal would be the best value for money purchase.

it's my point too- bentley is a player for spurs, or at best liverpool. we need better than a player built to shine in the upper mid table of the league. also we need a pacier player than him IMO.

I'd rather spend £50m on kaka or messi than £20m on swp, £15m on malouda, £15m on bentley.

if we are going to overpay, let's do it on real TOP quality.

but why overpay? we need to improve in certain areas of that there is no doubt, but to simply go out and splash money around does not always garuntee the player will settle or deliver. A player from this league will move straight into the squad and start palying immediatley.

as for paying £50 million for a player, or as suggested even higher, is just ridiculous.
