Posted May 20, 200816 yr just read this on the bbc rumours bit. love it. especially the fact the chelsea fans team won the series. im not massively into basketball, but seem to remember the name kevin garnett. is he a veteran player? "The Champions League final is causing things to get heated on the NBA scene. Cleveland Cavaliers star Zydrunas Ilgauskas is a Manchester United fan and accused Boston's Kevin Garnett of being a fake Chelsea fan. But Garnett said: "I straightened him out - I let him know I wasn't a fake fan." By the way, Boston have just beaten Cleveland 4-3 in the seven-match series. (The Daily Star) "
May 20, 200816 yr Yep it's the Celtics and am pretty sure Garnett is their star player and the reason they're competitive this year. I say this, however, due to knowledge gleaned from half listening to my American girlfriend and I have not checked any of the info, so I could well be talking utter sh*t.
May 20, 200816 yr Ok, so I'm not TOTALLY out of touch with NBA. Although the only Boston Celtics player I could name is Larry Bird(I'm equipped with the latest info, you see).
May 20, 200816 yr Garnett came to the Celtics this year and instantly turned a bad team into a contender. He met Drogba in LA last year and has been a Chelsea fan since. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sp ... 090412.ece
May 20, 200816 yr Author well, i know which basketball team im following from now on. COME ON BOSTON!!!!
May 20, 200816 yr shame about the 'Celtic' bit, but Boston is a great city, so might as well support them
May 21, 200816 yr Garnett has been an all-star for years. He made his name at I think it was the Minnesota Timberwolves?
May 21, 200816 yr you are all right, Garnett came to the Celtics (unfortunate name, but Boston has a huge Irish population), from the Timberwolves. However, the Celtics also signed Allen from the Seattle Supersonics who has been a great player for them also. They now play Detroit, and think that they won the first game in that series today.
May 21, 200816 yr not to mention, mac, have won every single game at home. Hopefully tomorrow we mimic the same feat because Moscow is alot like Roman's other home. All anyone out there needs to know is that Ilgauskus calling out Garnett is the equivalent of Kieron Dyer lecturing Pavel Nedved on durability. So I think Man United fans in the know are not exactly jumping for joy at this one
May 21, 200816 yr Honestly, i was struggling for that comparison. Dyer seemed like a natural fit for an overpayed scrub thats never amounted to much, though I am indeed based stateside. Im living in the Washington DC area, but I spent many years out west, including in lovely Washington State and Clark County, an area I absolutely love. I am looking one day to move out of this hustle bustle hell out east either with some family in Northamptonshire or back to the serenity of the West Coast. Just away from Washington Is your location true, Mac? How different do you find life between Scotland and Spokane???
May 22, 200816 yr I do, but not as much this year, because I don't find time to catch the games I was going for the Hornets, but they lost in game 7 to the Spurs (not Tottenham ).
May 22, 200816 yr new orleans! chris paul is one of my favourite players. i follow basketball religiously so yeah mate, i know all about spurs, im a suns fan...
June 10, 200816 yr Garnett gets his Chelsea shirt That's nice. And having such sporting celebs being seen supporting Chelsea can only be good for expanding the fanbase over there.
June 10, 200816 yr Garnett gets his Chelsea shirt No.5?! What happened to Essien It's the old switcheroo... ...Essien goes to Celtics and Garnett comes to play in the Premier League with Chelsea. Kenyon heard Garnett's good in the air, so he thought he'd sign the fella before anyone else in Europe tries to sign the player. Kenyon tried to switch SWP for Garnett, but for some reason they weren't interested. Apparently they already had a team mascot.
