Free Anti Virus Software

Featured Replies

AVG 8 is free, but it's also utter crap just like AVG 7 was, but worse :D

I'd recommend Avast personally, or Antivir if you can disable the annoying popups when the software updates.

I have been using AVG for an aeon now but they have recently launched the new 8.0 version which isd no longer free. As far as I can tell version 7.5 is still going to work but it will no longer be updated for new viruses.

Anyone use any other free anti virus software that they can recommend?

i just got avg free 8, this is what i had to do

go to the site down load it but save it to file when prompted, do not open it, disconnect from the net, and uninstall your old avg. then open up the newer version and install it, that way you shouldnt get any conflicts between the two

I've been trying a program called "Rising" it's Chinese so they should know all about viruses, even catches doped athletes, it's got a small footprint and seems okay.

I've never liked AVG. It's full of holes. I've seen cases (people I know, not hearsay) where infections have got through that even Norton could stop.

Of the ones I've tried, Avast! is probably the best free anti-virus out there. The free version doesn't include script blocking, but you can overcome this by installing Spyware Blaster, also free.

Avast!

Spyware Blaster

However, I'm currently using NOD32. Not free, but my "trial" version has 16714983 days left.
