But he doesn't deserve this sort of abuse from Arsenal fans, and the way it's heading, he doesn't deserve to exit in this manner. He looks like he's lost all confidence in himself. That interview is the first time I've felt that he's going to retire. I have a feeling that if he retires it will be at the end of next season rather than this one, at the board's request, so that they can have a smooth transition. The board is probably terrified that it'll go the way of Man United.

Let's not forget that Barcelona lost by 4 goals yesterday too. The difference is that I can see Barcelona coming back and winning 5-0 on the second leg. It's improbable, but I can theoretically see it happening. With Arsenal it's not even a remote possibility in my mind because they lack the mentality, and Wenger is bad in high pressure situations. The Arsenal board approach it completely as a business. From that perspective, they are very well run, and many clubs would do well to learn from that. As long as they get Champions League money, the board is satisfied with Wenger. Unfortunately for Wenger's legacy, his final season will be his worst because as soon as he fails to make Champions League - it's bound to happen one of these years - the board will be ruthless. I don't think Wenger will retire on his own accord. I know a few people like that who are so scared of retiring. It's not about the money. It's about losing their identity. I'm starting to think there might have been some truth to the doping suspicions last season. They were like Mo Farah, running and running without getting tired. This year they're out of breath by half time. If the suspicions were true, I think it's more likely that they doped toward the end of the previous season when they suddenly had a huge spurt. Maybe the effects carried over to last season but have worn off now. Testing for doping is a joke in football. It's not uncommon for players to go their whole careers without being tested.
