What players in particular are you referencing? You cannot blame the club/Marina for not wanting to pay over the odds for players. My problem with the board is the targeting of transfers - how Conte or any manager doesn't have the final say over transfers baffles me. Granted, recently Conte seems to be getting his own way a bit more, but it took a massive kick up the arse after Burnley and Conte seemingly being annoyed at how pre-season had gone for this to happen

I don't mind him good all round player not very good at anything but can do a bit of everything but at 40 mil it's hard to justify. Sounds even more silly after  taking sh*tpence for chalobah BUT and it's a big but we have a buy back and sell on clause so it's not as bad as made out.
We value him at 20 lcfc at 40 if we panic and pay you have to ask why didn't we overpay 20 for Sandro and get a proper player instead of overpaying 20 mil for bang average.

Conte wants an English core supposedly, but Drinkwater, Barkley, etc... would be an English bench. They are not good enough to force their way into the first team. I expect we'll panic and pay the 40m Leicester want, as they were willing to do for Oxlade, but it'll be way too much and he'll be on the bench most of the season.

What's even more annoying looking back is that it was probably a very slight (and insignificant in the grand scheme of things) disagreement in price that the board were unwilling to budge on.

If Sandro decides he wants to leave, nothing to suggest that Juventus will get in his way judging from their previous outgoings. However that's the key, Sandro will have to force a move.

They all cost a hell of a lot and wouldn't agree on the quality part of that comment either.
Take away Walkers englishness and pace he is awful, he can't cross, can't tackle and has very limited positional awareness, him under Pep is a recipe for disaster not success.
Danilo has been on the bench at RM since he has been there so it may take him a while to regain what he had at porto and even then he looked defensively suspect.
Both are probably worse than Zabaleta atm in all aspects bar pace.
And can't really comment on Mendy but he is likely better than Clichy and Kolorov so he will improve them, but again from what I have heard he also is better going forward than back.
Danilo would have made good back up for both lwb and rwb but for 30m is a risk and Mendy may have been useful but is he much better than Alonso he certainly isn't on Sandro's level. Overall not fussed we missed out on both and I am extremely glad we dogded the walker bullet.

I think our biggest problem this transfer window was that we're selling much faster than buying. Regarding our midfield, we sold Oscar and released Mikel in January, in the summer window sold Chalobah and Ake, loaned out RLC and now selling Matic. The only midfielder we've bought in that period of time is Bakayoko and he isn't even fit to play yet. And the season starts in less than two weeks.

40m+ for a 29 year old who doesn't contribute enough in either attack or defence is a good deal in my opinion. My only worry is that we'll be going into the season with 3 Centre-midfielders, especially as none are out-and-out defensive midfielders. Can definitely see 2 more CMs arriving in the next few weeks, but as of now I can't really tell who that will be which is worrying. 
Shame that whilst all of our tital rivals seem to be getting stronger, adding where they are short and have now got a fully sorted team, Chelsea are still seemingly 4-5 players away from having a complete squad.

My only worry is that we'll be going into the season with 3 Centre-midfielders, especially as none are out-and-out defensive midfielders. Can definitely see 2 more CMs arriving in the next few weeks, but as of now I can't really tell who that will be which is worrying.

A loan with an option to buy would be a good signing. Certainly need 1 or 2 more midfielders and I think he's a pretty good all-round centre midfielder and will only get better considering hes so young. Don't think he'd be a starter though which is the reason he's keen to leave so whether or not it will happen i'm unsure.
At this stage with only 2 solid, proven first team CMs as it looks like Matic is gone i'd take anyone to be fair!

At full strength our best (current) 11 is a very strong side, and if we can add Sandro then it's more than capable of retaining the title.  The issue is we won't be able to play our full strength team every week, and as it stands we are lacking a lot of depth.  That is the major concern for most.
