Fun fact, most transfers on the continent are done over instalments. In fact many in England are, too. Usually the instalments last the length of the player's contract, so anything from 3 to 5 years in general. The main reason the Ronaldo to Man Utd deal was accepted so readily because it was unusually paid in one lump sum. We were well within our rights to expect to pay for Luiz under instalments, but the fact that we were in a weak position and Benfica in a strong position means they could demand quite a lot from us.

I'll have a go at these too, this is my impression of how it all works. Pressure from the club. The club will want it for financial security, and will be willing to pay the player more in the short term, and we as humans tend to think mainly in the short term. The player has to accept and sign a contract. Legally that would be ludicrous, a player can hire whoever they want as their agent, even no one, or themselves. If the agent held economic rights over the player that would be third party ownership as in the Tevez/Mascherano things. It's been outlawed in Europe (possibly the world), but it still happens a lot in South America.

I know what you mean, and really, I'm prone to coming across arrogant as much as anyone, it's just I don't want to see you forced away because of it. You do make some very good points, but they can be drowned out, and I find that a shame. Anyway, enough of this, onwards and upwards! Torres is a sh*tc**t. Boooooo!

The part I've emboldened is the important bit. Yes Torres can be as good, but my point is that they aren't the same type of striker, and I think a few others here would agree with me on that (going on RBJ's and Mod's posts). That's all. The rest of what you've said makes sense and is well reasoned, it's just that sometimes you make sweeping statements which come across wrong, are easily misinterpreted and to be honest seem arrogant, and you get a bad reception on here because of it. If it doesn't come across as too arrogant from myself, the one piece of advice I will give you is that you should read through your posts just once before you make them. It'll save a bit of the aggrevation you've been getting on here.

The thing is, they are both skilled, but Torres isn't that big and I'd never describe him as great in the air. If you hit a long ball, Torres isn't likely to win it. Drogba will win it at least 80% of the time, even with bad balls, and that is where the biggest difference lies in their styles. Torres needs it to feet to hold it up, he needs a good through ball to latch on to. He needs better service than Drogba will ever need. We may never agree on this, but I'm sure you can see my point on this, and I can see that you think of them being similar, it's just that Torres can't do many things we rely on Drogba doing to play in the same way. Youth has little to do with injuries. Ask Hutchinson, Robben, Owen or countless others.

Yeah, but do you see why we disagree with you that they're the same, you even admit to these differences. Had you said something along the lines of, that Torres is one of the only top level players who can lead the line on their own, then you'd have had a good point and would have seen very little, or even no argument at all from the rest of us. My main issue with signing Torres is that he's injury prone, and his signing would be one as a player to lead our line for years to come, and if we can't rely on him to play often enough, it doesn't matter how good or bad he may be.

Why whoever could you mean? If only we had someone like that, with the speed and power of say... An Elk...ah?

Relax man, this is some amusing sh*t. Apparently there are already Scousers on the streets singing Torres' name to stop him from going... although that is most likely bullsh*t considering the source I got it from.

I don't think that's likely, I think this is mainly a stunt. Not really... Drogba is far, far stronger and better at shielding the ball from defenders. Torres is probably a more clinical finisher and is faster to boot. They don't play in the same way at all. Torres requires through balls and link up to be a threat. Drogba is a threat on his own.

A Liverpool spokesman said that we placed a bid for Torres and it was rejected.
