Ridiculous amount of money, even for a tabloid rumor.

However, I must say, I really like David Luiz as a player. From the few times I have watched Benfica last season he was the one that stood out every time.

Very tall, athletic, great skill on the ball and passing. I think he was just called up to the Brazil national team.

Interestingly enough, I can't remember much about Ramires from those viewings.

he had an impressive debut for Brazil, looks an interesting prospect and with all his best years ahead of him. 27 million seems a bit steep though. Have to say Brazil looked pretty impressive last night ,early days but keep this young side together and they'll take some beating in their own back yard in 2014. Personally I liked the look of Ganso and I bet a certain Rednose wont have missed that he could be a perfect replacement for Scholes.

I think a lot of hacks are simply putting 2+2 together here, something the daily mail does all the time actually

Probably a very good prospect for the future but the amount of money that they want is a bit over the top... Anyways we dont need him (at least this season). Havent seen him often enough but if we sign him now then he could be prepared to form a nice partnership with Ivan at CB (for the time after JT, that is).

David Luiz is going to be a hell of a defender in the future, he already is very good. Id love to see him with us and forming a partnership with Iva or Alex. He would be a great signing.

Now the thing is, I could see Bruma with Him ( David Luiz) in two years time forming a formidable partnership BUT.....

Is the club willing to make that step and signing the best prospect young defender in Europe?? For what I have seen lately ( in the last 3 years0 Id say NO. A shame, because if he doesnt end up here I can see spanish clubs going after him next summer, I tell you one, R Madrid with Jose Mourinho. He wanted him this year but only the price put him off.

With David Luiz we would be very very very good for the next few years.... JT, David Luiz, Alex, Iva, Bruma, and Hutchinson we would have defenders for the next 4 years at least.

This defense line up: Iva, Alex, David Luiz and Ashley Cole would be terrific, and this guy Luiz is very very very comfortable on the ball.

Now lets come back to reality.... It is not gonna happen. :laugh2:

Haven't seen much of him to be honest however signing a centre back is a probably a must at this point. Ivan is a right back in my opinion, who was comparable to the likes of Maicon and Alves last year. He was voted best RB in the EPL and could easily be top 3 in the World. This is all in his first season as a first team regular. No point playing around with a player of his quality by trying to shift him to centre back.

I don't think Bruma is ready this season and could take 2-3 years more to develop into a starting player. Also im not confident in Alex and terry's partnership to carry us over an year. Id be more inclined to sell Bosingwa and use the money on a player like Luiz. Top quality centre backs are hard to find, we've been blessed with Riccy and Terry. Inter struck gold with Lucio and we could possibly do the same here

I agree. Bruma is not ready to fill in for Riccy.

He has yet to prove he can be a success at this level of football.

Luiz has the potential to become the greatest central defender in the game.

His style is similar to that of Carvalho than to John Terry.

With Riccy gone we are left wiith only two proven central defenders - Alex and Terry

Ivan most likely will play at right back for most of the season.

The 40 million price tag placed on Luiz by Benfica is far too high.

If we could sign him for around 25 million quid it would be an excellent piece of business.

Subtract Riccy's 6 million from that and it would work out at 19 million.

David Luiz would be an invaluable addition to our defensive unit.

Don't think that at all, with bosingwa back he is given at RB, with Ivan at central defence with terry.

Are you saying Ivan will replace Alex?

Are we now going to assume Alex is injured for the whole season?

Alex is our ball-moving CB now. Riccy was a maestro at that role, but I think what we have after he's gone is more than adequate.

Andy is exactly right. Ivan at RB was him filling a need for the club in the absence of Bosingwa. If he has grown up playing CB, and plays CB for Serbia, I think the club will be more than comfortable with him playing CB.

We have three experienced CBs, two veteran RBs, a world class LB with an excellent hybrid LB/LW backup, and an army of youngsters to fill in if needed. Bruma is not "replacing" Riccy in the rotation at CB so much as he is going to the back of the line as fourth option.

And there should be no "told you so's" on this one. If we were to have to play a youngster because of injury, it meas the club were unlucky, not poor planners for failing to buy a 30 million rated fourth choice CB.

Agree with everything you say, but just wanted to correct you. Ivan has been lining up as RB for Serbia as well recently, most likely because of his success at the position in the EPL and some other solid CBs from Serbia besides Vidic.

It's not easy for me to comment about one of my favourite players.

However, John Terry has become a liability because of his obvious lack of pace.

I agree that Ivan's best position is central defence.

If Bosingwa returns to full fitness he should be first choice for right back.

I would like to see Carlo try an Alex-Ivan partnership in the centre.

So our back four would be - Bosingwa, Alex, Ivan and Cole.

As for David Luiz I'm still in favour of signing him if the price is right.

A future partnership of Ivan - Luiz would be out of this world!

I don't think we will sign David Luiz, but if we do, it most likely won't be this year. It'll probably be in one year or two when his price drops and Terry's legs start giving way, assuming he hasn't been snapped up by then.

This is about right. I have been watching him since he went to Benfica, and all I can say to those who don't know him is; Picture a Ricardo Carvalho, only Stronger, Taller, better technique and...23 Years old.

He's gonna be a COLOSSAL defender - he already is !

I would put him second string to Ivan at right back. Sure, Bosingwa isn't bad attacking that side, but as a defender, Ivan is leaps ahead.

Agreed. His work rate and concentration is also on a differen planet.

City will Pip us to Luiz! according to Mirror!

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Manchester-City-are-beating-Chelsea-in-the-race-for-David-Luiz-article553613.html'

Kompany on the cheap if they do?

Bahh, I dont trust anything in relation to Mirror, remember they had a picture of Torres with our t shirt and nothing happened.

Robinho plays at Man City and he is pissed off of Manchester.... do you think he will give D Luiz any sign of encouragment to go there?? Dont think soo.

Ramires is already with us, Neymar might come to so D Luiz will come to if we bid for him.

David Luiz is the hottest prospect of CB in the world !!, a massive defender....... If he comes at anytime to the PL I hope is to join US ::ChELSeAFaN::

@BB: Doubt it. If I remember correct, he was one of their best players under Mancini. Think he'll sell someone else, like Richards. By the way, does anyone have a total spending fee for City this summer? More than the other 19 teams put together, isn't it?

Agree, Ivan was IMO our best and most consistent player last season especially before he got injured. He was voted best rb in the epl and at least top 3 in the world. Having a top 2 lb and a top 3-5 rb goes a long way in winning a championship. We just need a good strong center back who can produce a good partnership with Terry
