My first post!
When I was growing up I simply wasn't into football. I was at boarding school in Scotland, and we lived in Germany for quite a while (my dad was in the British Army), so it just seemed to bypass me. I only really started getting into football when Euro 96 was on, with all the hype and excitement that accompanied it. At that time I was living up in Aberdeen, and I didn't have a specific club team which I supported. Although my favourite colour was blue!
After Euro 96, I started to watch Premiership games and got interested in the various European competitions. What drew me to Chelsea were two particularly memorable Cup Winners Cup games against Tromso. The first leg was an absolute farce with the snow making the game almost unplayable. I remember watching it and couldn't believe what I was seeing... stopping the game every 10 mins to shovel snow off the lines! Chelsea were beaten in a game which should really have been called off. But the second leg back at the Bridge was the perfect response - seven goals which took Chelsea through, and ultimately on to win the competition.
I was hooked, the decision was made. Chelsea was my chosen team from that point on. The style of play and the commitment they showed just appealed to me, Zola was wonderful, Wise so passionate (JT still reminds me of him!), Vialli's skill, and Tore Andre Flo so often coming on from the bench late in the game and saving the day... loved it. There was none of the arrogance which I sensed from Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs.
Have supported Chelsea ever since. Cried after the Moscow game in 2008 - so near and yet so far, and what a cruel way to go. Cried after the Barca 2nd leg this this year for completely different reasons! And of course, on the 19th of May 2012, came the happiest day of my life. And yes... I cried then too! And just typing this out actually has me welling up a little... time for me to go and watch those highlights on YouTube for the millionth time :)
