Barca vs Bayern

I know we are all riding high on our result, and we bloody well should be, but Barca look unstoppable right now. Completely demolished Bayern, 4-0 at HT and Messi annihilates defenses with ease that leaves players in stupor and awe.

Now that it is very probable we will progress (no jinx!!!), it looks certain Barca will be our next opponent. Talk about recurring fixtures !

I have only just come on the forums because, since the game ended, I have been savouring the football phone-ins on BBC5 Live and Talksport.

The summarisers on the Barca/Bayern game said Messi was simply superb. He is the best player in the world, (even Man U fans know that, despite how they worship Ronaldo), but we may have a case of the unstoppable force, Lionel Messi, meets the imoveable object... Michael Essien.

Anyhoo, back to the radio media coverage of tonights game. Pre-match I switched from 5live to get away from the pro-Liverpool bias over to Talksport where I found the impartial pundits were Mr Stanley Collymore and Mr Donald Hutchinson. Now Mr Cockymore was as bullish, gobby and confident as he could be before kick off but Mr Hutchinson surpassed him with this little bit of hyperbole;

"if the Liverpool fans get behind the team, and they will because they are the best fans in the world, then Chelsea will find it............... "

I'm afraid I don't know how the sentence finished because I was swearing and shouting so much as I turned the radio off.

But there's a little taster there my friends. A little taster of what the media in England, Ireland and Wales would have you hear, (and read), day in, day out, week in, week out, for months and months on end if Liverpool, God forbid, were to win the Premier League Title.

That's funny, because I switched off TalkScouse at exactly the same moment.

And a word on Andy Gray and the Sky commentary team. They were full of it when Torres put them ahead, blowing as much smoke up Liverpool's shorts as is humanly possible. But when we turned it around it was as if someone had hit Gray on the head with mallet (admittedly not the worst idea in the world) as he said less and less after that. If he noticed Gerrard being completely upstaged by Essien he certainly didn't mention it.

I'm not complaining mind you, it just made Drogba's 3rd doubly satisfying.

Barca was superb, starting in very high tempo and killing off Bayern's confidence with 2 fast goals, one of the best perfomances I've seen last few years. I recommend to watch it everybody.

In 2nd half Barca walked instead of running with the possession index 65-35, germans were simply shocked by the warm receiption.

BUT!!! German had defensive problems and the game was about a fight between Messi with overlapping Alves vs Ottl and Henry vs Oddo. Both defenders were slow and lacked mental abilities, which has became a vital factor in the game.

That why we should think carefully about RB position, while one of our central midfielders must always back-up Ashley on the left.

I am fully confident that a team with a competetnt defense would have prevented at least half of those goals. We don't have such a defense, on top of that we are in sh*t form and will probably sack Klinsmann today. Great game from you guys, yesterday, congratulations!

Was Lahm really injured? Even if he had only one leg, I think he could have defended better than Lell yesterday.

Let's see. Let's give Messi, one of the best attacking players in the world, acres of space to create and bring the ball into the box along with all the time in the world, and why don't we also stop marking him if someone else has the ball. Sounds like a good plan, doesn't it?
