Hiddink - Is this true, do you think?

Featured Replies

Guus Hiddink has accepted an offer to become a technical adviser with Chelsea after stepping down as manager.

The Dutchman took the reins at Stamford Bridge in February following the dismissal of Luiz Felipe Scolari.

He helped the Blues finish third in the Premier League and advance to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they came within moments of knocking out eventual winners Barcelona.

A number of Chelsea players pleaded with Hiddink to remain in charge beyond the end of the season but he always maintained that he would be resuming his role as full-time Russia boss.

Hiddink will now do just that after signing off as Chelsea manager on Saturday with victory over Everton in the FA Cup final.

It was an emotional farewell for the 61-year-old but he has now indicated that he will continue to work with the club in a new capacity.

"I will be in continuous contact with the club. Chelsea have asked me to become technical adviser," he said in the Sunday Mirror.

"You don't think I was going to turn that offer down, do you?"

Sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly is a technical advisor?

Normally it's someone who is employed when you are not entirely happy with your manager, and they lurk around in the background until your manager gets sacked and then they become manager.

So Avram Grant was a technical advisor?

I like that

Before we know it, Guus is back in the hot seat!

its simple, he advises us technical stuff. how to connect your sky box up, how to get your router going. that kind of stuff.

I believe "technical advisor" is a formal way of saying "will chat on the phone with Roman and tell him who to force Kenyon to buy".

I'd be surprised if Kenyon was around too much longer. Here's hoping anyway.
