Damien Duff returning to our neighbourhood

He has lost most of his pace too.

Something Malouda has in bundles.

I know Duff isn't the sort of player we should be going after, so not disappointed... just believe he was sold before his time and that we've not replaced what he bought to the team.

i agree entirely Gem, I think if he'd stayed he would have been a much bigger player and he would be a first team starter if we'd stuck with him. Maybe Newcastle are looking for a wee clearout - Lovenkrands has been training at Murray Park all week - hopefully he'll make a return to Ibrox

Disagree entirely.

I loved Duffer and thought he was superb in José's first season.

However, we sold him at the right time as he'd lost it by then, injuries having taken their toll.

I wish him well at Fulham.

Fair point Wicksy, he wasn't getting much playing time in 05/06, it was inevitable.

However I will not budge from the fact we have not replaced him (or Robben) with the quality they could and did produce.

I agree. One of my favourite games under José was when I was in the shed upper and Robben and Duffer helped us rip Barcelona apart.... fantastic! That's when Duffer was at his best.

Sadly injuries later took their toll and he was no longer worth a place in the team and had to go... very sad.

I dont know, I too think we got rid of Duffer too early. When he was paired with talents like Joe Cole and Robben, he became better because he offered something different, and he gave the defense another slashing, attacking player to worry about.

While I couldnt really say what it wouldve been like had he stayed, and I recognize that he was the one who wanted to leave for first team action, I cant help but thinking selling a useful player for 5m three years after we bought him for 17 was bad business at best.

Keep in mind, Newcastle started him virtually every week. If he was on the bench or an unused sub for many weeks, he might not have been as injury prone

I think the likes of Robben and Duff missed the type of manager/doctor who would tell them "get off your f**king arse and get on with it" - too much of "Oh I'm hurt, I can't work" in football and life generally these days. But thats probably a lower management local authority type reaction to staff welfare and performance..!!
