A Little History: If you've ever seen the Blue Revolution movie then you're probably aware of the incredibly passionate red head from Texas. Beth Wild. She's always saying how she came across as a crazy woman in that film, but anyone who knows her will gladly say that the only thing she is crazy about is Chelsea. She has run the Texas Blues for years and in more recent times has been the top CIA organizer along with Andy Burbidge (an expat lifelong Chelsea supporter). Those two have done so much to build and spread the word across the States, and along with the New York Blues have just about turned America Chelsea.

There are always ideas about what we can do to enhance the supporter group experience and to inform and "teach" our newer fans about the history of our club, and these legend podcasts were one of those ideas. Andy and Beth had discussed this idea for sometime and left it on the backburner so to speak. I let them know I was onboard and willing to get it rolling. My 8 month intern stint at a US based "soccer" radio show that has recently gone off the air (you guess which one), left me hungry and eager to be involved with a project like this. And what could be better than producing interviews with legends from your very own club?

All of the podcasts include Beth and I speaking to a legend. Andy is there in a few of them and there are a couple of veteran supporters who idolized the particular legend on the call. They are done over a conference call, and I download, edit and upload them on to the site.

I hope you all enjoy these, as they both inform the new supporter and allow the older ones to take trips down memory lane.

Around the time we played Juve in the Champions League last season was when we finally got the chance to speak to Tommy Langley and do this first interview. So, that is your point of reference and it's important to remember that when you hear some of the things we ask Tommy about present day Chelsea. Kakuta is mentioned, and the importance of a Youth System producing young players is ironically discussed.

One other thing to note, we go over some of Tommy's stats during the interview and as you will find out, even Rick Glanville can be wrong about certain statistics. Sorry Rick. :D

Since this interview I have met Tommy (to say the least). Picked him up at LAX for the Pasadena stop of our summer tour and proceeded to drink one or two pints. That is, every one or two minutes while he was here and in Texas. But what happens on tour, stays on tour. A wonderful man, a great friend and one of the nicest people at Chelsea no doubt.

Listened to all six of the legends. I have to tell you all they are very well done, (alright, the sound on one of 'em is a little tough!) Danny does an exceptional job.

After seeing another Pat Nevin clip on Youtube today, it made me think about our interview with the wee Chelsea Ledge. Then it made me think about this thread, that hasn't been updated since 1951. Sorry. :D

Wee Pat was our 4th interview and though it's impossible to really choose one as a personal favorite, this one is probably as close as it gets. For most of the interviews, the particular legend would usually start the call not really knowing what to expect, maybe a bit slow out of the gates and by the end of the call they were probably working on a six pack of Stella having a grand old time. Nevin was different. He was our best friend from the start and had so much fun talking about everything from his time on the pitch, to the Paul Canoville situation, to his tastes in music which of course is a huge part of his life.

I loved his stories about Everton in particular, and his insight on safe standing and atmosphere in general (my favorite question to ask anyone who will listen) was fun to hear. Our friend Michael (possibly the biggest Wee Pat fan in the world) joined in on the call and was brilliant. Great to hear someone who started following Chelsea just around the time Nevin joined.

Anyway, I actually got it to work this time around and all I can say is that my estimation of wee Pat has shot up! Great podcast, and an insight into how football has changed. It is a long podcast, but all fans of the club need to listen to this
