Oh Maksimov! I search in vain for The History Boys - a superb film! How could you have left it out?

He didn't - The Telegraph did. Or whatever newspaper it was that made it.

I've seen The History Boys, it's brilliant

Of the ones above I would say Pans Labyrinth, Amelie and Y Tu Mama Tambien are comfortably my top three choices.

Pan's Labyrinth and Amelie are films I predict I will still be watching when I am a crotchety pensioner with an opinion on everything, even things I have never known anything about!

The Telegraph is a bloody Tory rag! I could watch The History Boys until I knew it by heart. I just have to say to myself the word "Neeeeshaw!" and I start giggling!

Oh and "What do I think of History? It's just one f**king thing after another!"

The best bit is the french scene though, it's absolutely hilarious!

Je voudrais travailler dans une maison de passe!

On the flip side the films in that list that should have been burnt in the cutting room are:

A History of Violence

The Devil Wears Prada

Mamma Mia!

That isn't to say I think all of the others are great films - just that these three were least deserving of the hype about them. The Devil Wears Prada and Mamma Mia in particular were only fir for an euthanasia clinic.

Will this be an imminent metamorphosis?

I don't think Farenheit should be number 1. I suppose it has "defined the 00s" like the title of the article says, but there're so many better films than that one.

And I have an issue with Bourne Supremacy. Yes, it was good, but Ultimatum was so much better in every way.

No Country for Old Men should be higher.

Has anyone seen Das Weisse band? (The White Ribbon) It's been highly recommended to me by a friend here, but I haven't managed to see it yet. Just wondered if anyone had anything to say about it (but don't spoil the plot for me, please!)

PS The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas was excellent.

  • 3 weeks later...

Too many here to really pick 3,

Donnie Darko, Let the Right One In, Children of Men, City of God, Amore Perros, There Will be Blood, Amelie, and Pan's Labyrinth seem to be the standouts for me.
