Unstoppables?

Featured Replies

Do any of you subscribe to this moniker the media protrayed you as less than a month ago?

Do The Pensioners still have what it takes to go on and win the Prem, CL, CC and FA Cup?

Or, do you think Stretford will pick up at the turn of the year (as Sir Alcoholic says) and deny you yet again of the title you practically had in the bag after trouncing Arsenal?

Why do we have an Arsenal Fan "baiting" in Chelsea's general forum now?

At least, ask Arsenal related question in the football (non-chelsea).

can i ask you if you thought your so called invincibles were the bestest team ever in the history of everything?

Best team in the league that season. Done something not done before or since. 38 games unbeaten.

Actually, Wenger had said we'd go the pervious season unbeaten as well, but he was laughed out of town.

Do you remember when we only had 1 defeat in the 1009/91 campaign? That was a good year :300:

But, back on topic. Do you think you're still favuorites for comp you're playing in, as PORTRAYED by the MEIDA?

(see what I did there, June? It wasn't my analysis I was merely pointing out the media love-in surrounding your team only one month ago)

Yeah, I think we'll seal the title after we w**k all over Arsenal again.

I'd say we'll knock you out of the CL as well, but we don't have Wayne Bridge any more...

you do realise chelsea scored more points than arsenal during the unbeaten run? your team stopped playing for wins towards the end of the run and was happy with draws. and as your question is far too obviously a bit of fishing then im not even gonna bother answering it.

It's a serious question dkw, surely you know that.

And Kloon, you may well knock us out if we're drawn together. You'll proably get ot the final but, what good would that do when JT can't hit a barn door withy a banjo?

But i digress...

Heh. Well hopefully we won't need penalties this time.

its a ridiculous question, all you needed to do was look through this forum at the time the press was saying it to see no-one on here thought we had the league wrapped up.

The media is the media, everyone knows that. What they say or do or whatever stupid nicknames they bestow it shouldnt affect players who consider themselves professionals.

If people mistakenly believe that the meeeedja outlook somehow substitutes for the opinions of actual fans, then, well, thats really more convenient strawman-ing than anything. And I cant be too mad, as we are all guilty of it.

We havent won it in 3 years, despite what the media predicted en masse would happen, so until its over or its mathematically impossible to be caught, im not getting excited for anything

Good point guys. Sorry Romford, I got caught up by Banter Claus and never actually answered your question.

As an eternal pessimist who gets nervous before a home game to Wolves, I can safely say I didn't buy into all the 'unstoppables' talk.

Do you remember when we only had 1 defeat in the 1009/91 campaign? That was a good year :(

So, a millennium ago, seasons lasted 82 years did they? I wasn't around back then.

We are out the Carling Cup already, so no we won't win that one.

However, to answer your question: The Media "Love In" I find quite ironic coming form an Arsenal fan, whose team, despite constant whinging and under-performing, are still seen as the darlings of British football - but I digress.

We certainly have what it takes to win silverware this season, but whether we will or not is another matter. If arsenal win their game in hand, they are closer to us than Utd are. So I think there is a long way to go. You have to remember that in todays "immediate" society, the press have to write stories that go along with the general feelings in the football community at that time. Steve Bruce was even saying that we were the beast team he'd played against, so it was coming from peers, not just the media.

However, having been following Chelsea for a good while now, I never get my hopes up. Also, I must add, that the same press "love in" soon changed once we started dropping points, and the inevitable "Chelsea in Crisis" headlines have been banded about more than any "unstoppables" have.

We have our problems, so do Man U, so do your lot. Add to that the fact that the premiership is even stronger this year than in seasons past, I think it's fooish to start handing out trophies or monikers before Christmas. So how you figured we had the title "practically in the bag after trouncing arsenal" I don't know?

Long way to go, and I'm not patting the collaborative Chelsea back over anything yet!
