We all follow the Chelsea.......Why Leicester?

Hi all.

I've never really understood the Leicester part of this chant. After a bit of googling I came across this website - sorry but it's an arsenal forum

Is what they saying correct? It appears to be one of 3

1. Leicester is a sh*t hole

2. It's the where the North meets the South

3. Because of the 1979 Cup Tie

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers,

Huey

I believe someone (and it might well have been Greenaway) just chucked it in as Chelsea were steaming through the underpass at Leicester one year. Suggesting it was not like anywhere else in the world - it's the absolute pits!

Leicester have always hated us, there's a bit of a rivalry going back. I always assumed it came from there somehow, maybe you should ask here...

The chelsea Autobiography 2005 explains this,

Its to do with a reserve fixture in the 60's where Chelsea played at Tottenham and (Chelsea) started some trouble, the next week they did it against LCFC about 100 Chelsea fans turned up to cause trouble, they started singing we all follow ......... AND LEICESTER!

The week after the did it at Norwich and then Forest...

Read the book as It explains all.

I always though it was due to the signs on the Motorway that read "To the North, and Leicester"

Thanks for the replies.

I was also leaning towards this one. Arsenal fans also put the Leicester part in to their chant (or did they just steal it off us).

I think Barn has got it right, there - I have a vague recollection of seeing it explained in a matchday programme quite a while ago, and if I remember rightly, that was the gist of it.

As an aside from all this, I was reading Frank Skinner's autobiography a few years back, and he mentions in there that at West Brom they sing:

"We all follow the Albion, over land and sea - and water"

Is that just an example of the intelligence level in Birmingham or what?

Some people put that down to the fact that Birmingham is so far away from the sea that they don't understand what it is. Others say it's more to do with Brummie kids having their brains removed at birth.
