Anyone recall the game between us and palace...not sure if it was a cup game..selhurst was so muddy the ball stopped from going in cos of it...jog anyones memories?..i think Wrighty was playing?

did we lose 3-2 or something?

Yeah i`ve got unhappy memories of that game, it was a Coca Cola Cup Quarter Final and the end score was 3-1 to palace. Chris Coleman scored the first i believe which trickled over the line. Andy Townsend made it 1-1 with a cracking drive, and i subsequently made myself very unpopular by jumping about 3ft and punching the air in the home end (i went with 3 mates who were all Palace).

Then i think it was a couple of palaces kids who got the second and third goals.

I was gutted because we had a good team at the time with Le Saux on one wing and Graham Stuart on the other. We were definitely favourites to win that game.

Dont think it was long after that game that Porterfield got the sack but my memory may be playing tricks

1992/93

6th January 1993 - League Cup 5th.Round

Crystal Palace 3 (Coleman, Ndah, Watts) Chelsea 1 (Townsend)

Palace: - Nigel Martyn; John Humphrey; Robert Bowry; Chris Coleman; Eric Young; Andy Thorn; George Ndah; Geoff Thomas; Grant Watts; Simon Rodger; Eddie McGoldrick

Manager - Steve Coppell

Chelsea: - Kevin Hitchcock; Steve Clarke; Frank Sinclair; Andy Townsend; David Lee; Mal Donaghy; Graham Stuart; Robert Fleck (John Spencer); Mick Harford; Eddie Newton; Andy Myers (Graeme Le Saux)

Manager - Ian Porterfield

I remember watching this on TV, the pitch seemed to have a deep end and a shallow end. Robx is right, we would have had a goal if the ball hadn't stopped in the mud on the line.

Highlights should be on the 92/93 season review, I'll dig mine out and have a look.

Sad night that one, we had such high hopes. I got my ticket in the Palace section of the Holmesdale End on a Sunday morning after coming back from holiday the day before. On the night I went in quietly but soon became aware there were hundreds of Chelsea fans on that side of the fence and when Townsend scored there must have been a surrounded circle of at least 1000+ of us going beserk. As much as I hate big nosed Villa c**t these days, on that night he really did grab the team by the scuff of the neck to try and get us through and I'll always appreciate his efforts in that game, but luck and weather conditions were against us. To make things wore it took nearly two hours to get home to Camberwell which is only a few miles away.

Just watched the highlights on the season review.

Palace's first goal was down to Frank Sinclair's passback getting stuck in the mud, Chris Coleman slid in on his arse and turned the ball towards the goal - the ball only just crossed the line, and didn't reach the back of the net. Great equaliser by Townsend, then Palace scored two more fluky goals - honest, I'm not being biased! :D

That game was early Jan 93. I thought IP got the sack in about Feb or March.

I was there - it was absolutely chucking it down all night. Was actually in the Palace end with my Dad (the Sainsburys end), what i remember most is when Townsend scored and half the ground went up! Great goal too.

Typical sort of luck and performance we used to show in those days when we were quite close to actually doing anything.

These were the times we should never forget when getting to a semi normally meant a pitch invasion!

Been to Selhurst many times (my family is all Palace) - sh*t place it has to be said, though i wish the club all the best right now. Cant deny they are my second team. Not by choice though really.

Who remembers Wisey and Andy Gray kicking bits out of each other 10 mins into a game in 1990 ? We had just both been promoted the season before as well. I think it was only Dennis' second game for us too! First red card of many. We lost that one too. Looking back we had a fair few dull macthes with them there in the early 90s, a few 0-0s if my memory serves me right.

Last time we played there the Tiago song was born i seem to recall!

I remember that game very well. I was there, unfortunately.

The conditions were absolutely farcical and why the game wasn't called off is beyond my comprehension. The pitch was virtually waterlogged and at least one of the goals was farcical. I left with a mate just after half-time in protest - the only time I've ever done that at a football match.
