Hi folks, id be interested in everones first games, be it at the bridge or away. My first game was a disaster somewhat it was season 1977-78 away at Everton. Chelsea lost 0-6 (yes 0-6) and Bob Latchford scored a hattrick to win the first player to score 30 daily mail award. 10,000 pound prize i think but cannot remember exactly. I was only 7 but for me i was addicted. Now ive been all over the country watching the mighty blues and will continue to do so aslong as i can get tickets as its alot harder now to watch a game then it was years ago. First home game for me was 1981-82 Newcastle Utd Chelsea won 2-1. I was sat opposite the main stand and where the cars used to park behind the goals. I wasnt allowed in the shed as i was only 11. I went on a coach special from Grimsby with my brother who was slightly older then myself.I remember running down the Kings Road towards the tube and looking behind me and seeing a policeman on a horse, the horse was bucking and opposing fans fighting. Unfortunatly for Chelsea the hooligan element was rife back then. Happy Days though and will always be in my memories. A damp and dreary winter night at the Bridge, but we won!!!. I was the only kid at my school with a Chelsea bag, The only supporter of Chelsea i suppose in my area apart from my brother. Oh how times have changed!!! cmon the mighty blues!

My first job when I left School was at Morpeth Street School in BG, John Sparrow used to go there and had just left there to start his Chelsea career, Some years before that I attended my first Chelsea match at Carrow Road we won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Peter Osgood headed in from a Mary cross in the league cup quarter final.

It was the era of Crombies and flat checked hats with a few butchers coats for good measure. A bit of fog from the river, old floodlights and a lot of Chelsea in the Barclay.

Unfortunately I never met him at Morepeth School, my main claim there was I put the floodlights on the Columns in the new playground on the Globe Road side of School, maybe you played under them.

The bizarre part of the school was it had one of the first fibreglass roofs, the roof moved so the walls had a foam insert to stop them cracking and moving, it was also roasting hot in summer, did you do your woodwork and metalwork under this roof? Since replaced.

Same away games different years, Spurs in 71/72 and Ipswich boxing day 72.

I'd been to plenty of away games in London, but my first away game outside of London was on 1st January 1972 at Derby County. I was only 13 and could only afford to go because I'd had a decent Christmas Box from both my paper rounds! Our previous two games were both at the Bridge, beating Tottenham 3-2 in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final, and beating Ipswich 2-0 with David Webb replacing the injured Bonetti in goal for the whole game. Bonetti was still injured for the Derby game, so Steve Sherwood made his debut.

My memories of the game are very vague, but I remember making the journey up from St.Pancras on the special and being in awe of all the main Chelsea geezers. We arrived at Derby, hundreds of us, and the noise we made chanting in the station was impressive. It was a fair old walk to the Baseball Ground, but it was uneventful, and we stood in the Pop Side right next to the Derby mob with just an iron railing seperating us. We outsung them throughout the game, but lost the match 0-1. The only memories I've got of the game are the weather, cold and wet, and thinking how different Sherwood looked to Bonetti. He must have been about 6 inches taller and had really blond hair!

The journey back to the station was more eventful, as we were ambushed by mobs of Derby fans coming out of the side streets. The Chelsea leaders made sure we all stuck together though, no stragglers. Every attack was beaten back, and in the end the Derby mob gave up. I've got to admit, that journey was a nervous one for me - it was dark, and at 13 I didn't really know what was going on, there seemed to be fighting at the front of our mob, at the back, and all around me. I soon adapted though, and by the time I made my next visit to the Baseball Ground six months later I was much more prepared, and enjoyed it immensely!

My first away game was at St James's park a good few years ago.

My favourite was in the double winning era. Away at Arsenal. Never was I more confident we were going to wallop them, we were so good.

I took 2 or 3 photos when I first came in. The Emirates is a lovely stadium, even if its a library :)

When Drogba stood up to take the free kick I was 110% sure it was going on. This is why I whipped out my camera + recorded this one and only scene.

My first away was with my dad at Brentford for a reserve game, he must have borrowed a car as we didn't have one and I remember driving there. A lot of first team were playing Osgood and a few others. I remember getting burnt on the hand by the bloke sitting behind me's fag.

First away on my own Fulham in the Anglo Scottish cap, seeing hundreds of our supporter in the Thamesbank and not a squeak from Fulham was funny as they'd been giving it the big one around where I lived after getting to the cup final and with us getting relegated.

Then later that season my first away game out of London at Oxford. We went on the National bus from Victoria, about three buses full and got there early, one bloke had his hair set on fire on the way there! I chose this one as a mate had gone there the previous season with Man U. We wandered around the ground a few times waiting for the main mob to turn up . We went in the ground and it was a singing from us and nothing from the other side of the fence in the covered end until a few minutes before kick off when Oxford started up. Next minute a huge rumbling noise from over there and Oxford were on the pitch going over to the side terrace and then evacuating that a few minutes later ending up in the open end. My first experience of the Chelsea agro at an away game. Afterwards was sh*t, we should have bunked the train back with everyone else but naively waited for the bus until about 6 o'clock, just a few of us from three busloads and my mate's brother took his frustration out on a litter bin unaware the old bill were watching from a side street and they knicked him just as the bus came. Quickly we got on before they might have decided to up their arrest numbers.

I remember parts of my fiirst out of London away almost as if it were yesterday. Norwich away in the FA Cup, early '70s possibly 1972 or maybe '73. I can't remember the score, the match is largely a blank but I can remember the feeling of anticipation sitting with my mates on the Special on the way up, the sheer adrenaline after the game, coming out of the ground to be faced by a mob of Norwich fans, my best mate at the time telling me: "don't run, stand", and I did. I stood tall and I loved every minute of it.

Damn it won't let me edit. I could have sworn it was an FA Cup game but looking at the Norwich v Chelsea head to head's this can't be the case. It was definitely a Saturday so my guess is it would have been this one:

Norwich City v Chelsea, 14 April 1973

Final score: Norwich 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea: Peter Bonetti, Gary Locke, Ron Harris, Dave Webb, John Dempsey, John Hollins, Alan Hudson, Steve Kember, Chris Garland, Peter Osgood, Tommy Baldwin

My first ever game was v Sunderland at home 1979 aged 9 & we drew 0.0, i dont remember much about the game but do remember sitting in the west stand with a family friend who took me, he took me to loads of games back then & in the winter months me & him would be sat with a blanket over our legs lol!

My first up north was Man City away aged 16 1986/87 won 2.1, went by a CFC special train on my own after two mates bottled it on the morning of the game, got to Main road & were met by some City fans throwing stones down on to us from the top of the Kippax steps, i stood above that white wall with underpass behind a corner flag, we played in Jade, i've still got the itenerie for the train & am sure i posted it in the vintage thread.
