nice guitar, but i really wanted a pair

I have a nice pair...

Did you notice the bloke says he'd prefer to be paid in cash????

If i'm right about that particular model of guitar, there are less than 15 of them in the world and regardless of the Clapton premium would sell for tens of thousands.

How did I know that? My friend's dad bought on in the 70s, kept it in pristine condition. He's now sitting on a goldmine.

You'd have to be right SC, because I don't really see that the Clapton thing brings tens of thousands of dollars to it. If he recorded 461 Ocean Boulevard with it, or used it at the concert for Bangladesh then fine. But 97/98 after he started to write soft-rock rubbish? Then again I suppose many wouldn't differentiate.

No this is a 000-28EC which is a standard production model, if it was EC's original or prototype Martin model then maybe it is worth a bit more but you can pick these up for around 3K so the price is purely based on EC's fame.

I would be very suspicious though, if it is worth that much surely it would be auctioned off somewhere a little more exclusive than Ebay.

SC - if you had a bit more about your friends Dad guitar then feel free to PM me I will give you something of a keen armature appraisal. But old guitars are horses for courses on price at the moment. It depends a lot on tone wood, age, condition and sound and of course how much someone wants that particular model. If your friends dad bought it in the 70's then I don’t think it would be 000-28EC it maybe a 000-28, if it is a 000-28 and an old one then indeed it is worth a few quid (more so in the UK because we pay a massive premium on guitars) but I am afraid not coming close to the valuation of this guitar.

You could always contact Martin direct through their website (link below) I have dealt with them directly in the past and they are an excellent company and quick to respond to the guitar history etc., in particular if you have a serial number.

Doesn't seem anyone is that interested in this chaps guitar. 0 bids with 9 hours to go.

Andy you seem to know your stuff about this kind of thing, are you a collector of guitars yourself?

You would be mad to send that much money by paypal. You would never make that size purchase so it is suspicious so hence no bids

Yes I am a collector but a very amateur one, I am not as expert as some.

..and perhaps nobody wants to own a guitar once played by a fascist!

To be fair moi, Clapton was drunk out of his mind at that concert, similar to Bowie being coked out of his mind when he called Hitler the first rock star and said Britain was ready for a fascist leader.

I don't pay much attention to the political ramblings of musicians right or left wing, they should stick to writing tunes.

Andy, how many do you have? It's an interesting and I'd suggest expensive hobby. I've always wondered what Neil Young's guitar Old Black will go for at auction after he's dead, the numbers are just mind-boggling.

I didn’t realize EC was a fascist ! ... considering he goes on about essentially black music all the time surprises me. I have never been a fan however Layla and Tears in Heaven are great songs.

I probably have around 20 guitars at any one point, most of them are very old but not very expensive. The rarest/oldest guitars are only really worth between 5 - 10 K .perhaps (it is not an exact science) .. Celebrity guitar market I really have no idea, it depends what people are prepared to pay. I think the most expensive would probably be an old blues man’s guitar maybe a Robert Johnson, but as far as we know they don’t exist, but I am guessing. If you found the one in my profile picture I would consider remortgaging my house

I tend to like old parlor guitars or National Resophonic guitars, the occasional banjo. For a brief period I made a little bit of money on ebay when the $ was almost 2 to the pound as guitars sell for silly money in the UK. I could import them cheaper and sell at a premium but it is not possible to make enough money to make it worthwhile at the moment.

On the flipside i have an Encore bass guitar(black n white)

Carlsbro kickstart 25 .....amp

Boxed skytronic multi effect pedal.....Dont feel im a fascist...Only £80 quid

My experience of drunken ramblings (my own as well as other people's) is that they tend to be a more accurate reflection of the person's thoughts than the statements they make when sober. Eric Clapton has also made many very right-wing statements when sober.

As you say, however, it doesn't detract from his talent, any more than Polanski's crime detracts from his. But it has prevented me from ever spending a penny of my money on Eric Clapton;s music. (I bet that doesn't keep him awake at nights, though! :laugh2: )

In it's own way, the delivery charge is just as shocking/ludicrous as the asking price.

Described as Economy Delivery, it'll cost you £200 to ship to the UK, £500 to the UAE, Australia, Gibralter, and if the drop down list is anything to go by, anywhere outside of the UK including the USA.

He made some comments at a concert in Birmingham one night, endorsing Enoch Powell essentially. Britain is overpopulated, need to get rid of some foreigners, stop us from turning into a black colony... something along those lines. You can dig up the exact quotes pretty easily.

You're pretty spot on about crimes detracting from talent moi, Polanski is a real scumbag but I still love Chinatown. Similarly Clapton is brilliant. Some of the work he did with Cream is just something else, also it's hard not to like Layla (original of course!)

andy, who knows if any of Johnson's guitars still exist. If they do I'd say they're in someone's basement somewhere and the person is entirely oblivious of what they have and the value of that to some people. But anyway his guitars probably sound terrible, everyone knows he had his talent because he sold his soul to the devil.

Originally conceived as a one-off concert with a message against racism, Rock Against Racism was founded in 1976 by Red Saunders, Roger Huddle and others. According to Huddle, "it remained just an idea until August 1976" when Eric Clapton made a drunken declaration of support for former Conservative minister Enoch Powell (known for his anti-immigration Rivers of Blood speech) at a concert in Birmingham. Clapton told the crowd that England had "become overcrowded" and that they should vote for Powell to stop Britain from becoming "a black colony". He also told the audience that Britain should "get the foreigners out, get the wogs out, get the coons out", and then he repeatedly shouted the National Front slogan "Keep Britain White".Huddle, Saunders and two members of Kartoon Klowns responded by writing a letter to NME expressing their opposition to Clapton's comments, which they claimed were "all the more disgusting because he had his first hit with a cover of reggae star Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" ... Come on Eric... Own up. Half your music is black. Who shot the Sheriff, Eric? It sure as hell wasn't you!". At the end of the letter, they called for people to help form a movement called Rock Against Racism.

Clapton later claimed that his remarks were made as a joke, and that he did not know anything about politics at the time. In a 2007 interview, however, he said he still supports Powell, and that he doesn't view Powell as a racist. - Wiki.

I didn't know any of this, and it's fairly shocking. There isn't enough heroin in Afghanistan to make me say such things.

I sport an Ibanez GAX30 in garnet, and a Gibson J45 acoustic.

Gibson J45.. very nice

Electric vs Accoustic are Casio keyboard's compared to Steinway Piano's

Not so sure about that andy, I'm listening to the Stones electrified version of Robert Johnson's 'Love in Vain' from the 'Get Your Leeds Lungs Out' concert and it's pretty incredible.

Depends on who has their hands on the guitar as far as I'm concerned.
