Featured Replies

copied from another site:

I was watching an old episode of Minder last night ,

Terry was going to watch Chelsea as Fulham were away.

Filmed inside and outside Stamford bridge guess how much it was to get into the game ?

It is in second series of Minder so must me 1981 ish

This may help......

Based on inflation compared to the price of a pint to attend a football match compared to when Jimmy Greaves was playing (according to his recent book) football would cost ?8-10 pounds to attend

applying this to 1981........

in 1981 a pint was approx 80p-?1 (guessing here as I was only 7) (3 pints is the same as the entry fee at that time)

nowdays it's around ?3.00 per pint so todays prices should be in the region of ?9/?10

Either Chelsea alot dearer or beer has got cheaper......I think we know the truth.

I was there, beside them while the filming took place. A message flashed up on the electric score board that he needed to report to the clubs office. It was filmed about an hour or so before kick off.

He did get a bit of stick towards the end of the filming.

"Terry McCan is a homosexual" was the song on the day.

as for how much it cost, sorry can't remember, or the additonal cost to get into the benches

I remember being there when Culture club filmed a video and they were wearing the old white away kit.

Someone crossed it and one of the band members had to head it in (not boy george he'd have been ruined!!)...he kept missing and got slaughtered by the shed.

Top marks for anyone who finds a clip on you tube - don't remember the song, just remember seeing the video on SAT morning kids TV and shouting to my mate that I was there when they filemd it

Not sure about 1981 (I was in the middle of my drowning-in-alcohol phase, and the memory is a bit bolloxed as a result), but I know that when I first started going to Chelsea in 1967 it was five shillings entrance fee for adults, kids got in for half-a-crown, and a programme cost sixpence.

By the time I was paying as an adult you could go to the game, buy a programme and a vomit-inducing hot dog, have 15 pints of Double Diamond or a couple of gallons of light & bitter, have a fight, get arrested and appear in court and get fined on the Monday, all for under a score!

Ah, the good ol' days, indeed! oldboy.gificon_lol.gif

And a marsbar was tuppence (I hate that word) right ?

I think I posted this before maybe on the old style forums.. but as far as I can remember in 1981 there were no such things as season tickets ??

Anyway my breakdown went something like this and I can remember most of it to this day.

I had ?8 pocket money. (in ?1 notes so you had a role of money, how cool was that !!! sod the Euro, pound debate , bring back the pound note is what I say !)

Tube far was 20p leaving me with ?7.80

the progamme was deffinatley 80p now I am sure about this cos I got one and I can remember it like it was yesterday .. so I got ?7.00 at this stage.

I was 12 years old btw I was getting to stage when I thought a packet of fags at about a quid was better value !

Okay entry to the ground was a wapping ?5 for kiddies so now I am down to a couple of quid.

Okay my favorite tipple at this time was cream soda in those polar bear bottles .. and washed down with a stamford burger... both were a big mistake as you bleched the following Wednesday and it was a lottery of which you would taste the stamford berger ot the cream soda a full 4 days later !

The cost of this was a bit hazy I think it was around 80p......

and the change of around ?1.20 went into the yellow bucket (now some of you will remember that ?) it was either to save the bridge or pay Mickey Droys wages.

I do remember one day buying a packet of crisps and being overcome with guilt because I thought that Mickey Droy would be getting less wages !!! (How devoted to the blues am i icon_confused.gificon_wink.gif )

I was skint for the rest of the week.

Had to ask for a pocket money raise when I started smoking and paying an interest in girls (yuck!)

Carefree

Andy

Transfer - Shed to the benches - was a quid I think.

Sure it was. ?3 to get into the Shed and an extra ?1 for the luxury of sitting on a slab of concrete!!

I was in the Shed that day. Of course not hard to guess one of the chants that day................

Boy George, Boy George, do you take it up the.................!!!
