Posted March 5, 200718 yr http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hli ... +Del+Horno Good luck to him - if we had kept him, made Bridge our first choice then we would have needed to sign Cole! Wouldn't that have been better?
March 5, 200718 yr I'm not sure I ever felt too comfortable with Del Horno. Then again, had we kept him, we wouldn't have had the need to get Cole(which I didn't want us to do) and we probably wouldn't have sold Gallas to Arsenal. Gallas would probably have left anyway, but at least he would've gone somewhere else than the Goonerland.
March 5, 200718 yr Or kept Gallas, and IF needed play him on the left, where he has played for Arsenal this season!
March 5, 200718 yr It seems to me that the real issue with Gallas wasn't that he had to play at leftback. He didn't get the sort of money from us he thought he deserved and wanted out. The French connection at Arsenal must've seemed like a good reason to choose Francenal.
March 5, 200718 yr Ill always remember him for that tackle on Messi and the resulting Oscar winning performance

The French connection at Arsenal must've seemed like a good reason to choose Francenal. But Gallas didn't get much more money at Arsenal did he? He had ?80.000 at Chelsea and Arsenal didn't want to pay him that much. In the end they agreed (I think). So it doesn't seem like he left because of the money or because he didn't get to play where he wanted. So why did the little toadsucker leave?
March 5, 200718 yr had real problems with the language. a quality player though, but didn't recover after losing form. would have been better this season, and his ability in the air is something at times we could have done with.
March 6, 200718 yr I didnt rate Del Horno all that much. He had a few good games for us but he never sticks out in my mind as 'one of those players we shouldn't have let go'. Same as Bonetti, I remember him for the Messi incident and that isn't a particularly good memory! Good luck to him, of course, but I don't want to see him at the Bridge ever again.
March 8, 200718 yr Del Horno was a strange one - he walked straight into the first team with us, played like he had been with us for years, and then about 10 or 15 matches in, completely lost his confidence and his sense of positioning and never recovered it. G4 has a good point - we do actually miss his (and Gallas's) aerial ability at left back. It is a real weak point in for both Cole and Bridge.
March 10, 200718 yr Personally, I wish we kept him... He had a run of good form, though was dreadful when he lost it. However, with some more confidence he would have regained it I am sure.. Also, Bridgey would be first choice! None of this ridiculous Cashley transfer saga wouldn't have happened, I wouldn't have to tolerate seeing his sorry face in a Chelsea shirt and we would have a bit more respect than we do now. Oh, and we would have more money to offer Gallas, and if (he probably would...) he had to move, it would unlikely be l'Arse. Sounds like a great scenario to me! Also, I personally don't really blame TOO much for the whole Messi incident, since Messi IS a first class actor.
