Regardless of how it pans out in FFP terms it's still ridiculous that a player with no experience outside of just trying to stay in the division would be valued (according to the report) near to £20m.

I just don't see in what world Aaron Cresswell should become our 2nd all time most expensive defender. The premium on English players is shocking and the homegrown rule is counter intuitive to FFP.

I really don't have an issue with this transfer if it actually went through because it probably puts us in a better position going forward and if DaSilva develops as we all hope then Cresswell could probably be moved on in a few years. Just purely on transfer fees though, it doesn't look great spending £36m on reserve left backs in 2 years when we had Ryan Bertrand at the club already.

I agree with that, but modern football finances aren't just about transfer fees. We sold Bertrand for £10 million and if we sold Luis for £10 million then it would be £16 million outlay in two years.

 

The reality is that losing Cole's, Luis's and Bertrand's wages plus getting the money for Bertrand and Luis whilst amortising Cresswell's fees over the duration of his contract would probably be a much more palatable number.

Agree, although if there's a situation where Luis does get sold (as some rumours say) then I'd be happy to bring in Cresswell as backup to Azpi. But for 20m it seems very stupid, but for under 15m I think it'll be a okay deal. He's 25 too, so its not like if we did buy him, we're buying him young
