We won our first title on this day, 60 years ago.

Back then our attendances were over 48,000 - the largest in England at the time.

^ 75,000 (!) turned up for the title decider against Wolves. And this back in the days when we had no fans.

 

Meanwhile Arsenal finished 9th and Spurs 16th

 

Liverpool finished 11th. In Division 2.

3 years ago today Torres scored against Barca to ensure our place in the Champions League final. :)

I was always proud reading about this as a kid as at the time the idea of Chelsea winning the title seemed almost unthinkable. Even winning the FA Cup and finishing 4th was pretty mind-blowing. I am glad I grew up in a time when expectations were lower (and even then it's not as if we were anywhere near as bad as we were in the 80s) as it makes me fully appreciate how good we are now.
