So sad about Dale Jasper ?.

Despite being the reserves captain he only played a handful of senior games for us but I remember him well having seen him play in the Football Combination many times.

He was too classy for those days, considered flashy and lazy by many fans he was actually a skillful player who should have permanently played midfield really, as Centre Back he had no chance with Pates and McLaughlin there. He became even more unpopular after THAT penalty vs Sheffield Wednesday ?. Which was totally unfair and a shame because he was Chelsea through and through, a boyhood fan of The Blues who would stand in the terraces whenever he could.

I remember vs. Rangers in May '85, it was a friendly benefit game for the Bradford Fire Appeal and he was on the subs bench, Colin Lee got injured but Dale had decided he wasn't going to get a chance, got dressed and went to watch the game from the stands! An announcement went up on the scoreboard asking if anyone had seen him and we at The Shed began chanting "Jasper where are you?" ?. He couldn't make it down in time (rumour has it he was in the bar) and Duncan Shearer played instead, scoring his only ever goal for us.

Many years later a mate of mine worked with him on a building site, he was just as friendly, funny and had everyone in stitches all the time. RIP Dale, another one gone too young...
