August 25, 20214 yr Was stunned when I heard the news yesterday. Charlie was a brilliant drummer and for me was the backbone of the Rolling Stones and allowed the likes of Mick and Keith to do the 'flashy' stuff. Charlie may not have been flashy like Bonham, Moon and Baker but the sound he created was great for the Stones. I think that coming from a jazz background helped. In my view jazz drummers and those who have a jazz background have a level of skill that makes them stand-out from rock drummers. Only have to listen to the likes of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. R.I.P Charlie. It was an honour to have seen you perform with the Stones.

August 25, 20214 yr Another one of my small claims to fame in one week with a famous person that has passed away, that's quite upsetting really I had a brief encounter with Charlie Watts...., I played along with him in a small jam session when i was a teenager at South Hill Park Jazz festival in Bracknell, would have been early 80's ..... I can confirm he was most interested in Jazz at the time and as we know a fine drummer and I think he told us he was self taught. RIP Charlie, gone to join the big band in the sky
